Mercy Tagoe debunks pregnancy rumors about her female players

Head coach of the female national team, the Black Queens, Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo has debunk suggestions that some of her players are pregnant.

This week numerous widespread reports suggested that  some players of female national setup were pregnant following the suspension of contact sports by a Presidential directive as far back as March 15, of which football was included.

However, the headcoach, who is in constant communication with her players due to the inactivity of the women’s league said her girls were matured enough to know right from wrong.

According to her some of them were married, as such if they were pregnant, it shouldn’t call for condemnation.

“No pregnancy has been recorded so far, the players are matured enough and some have gone through the ranks of the national teams and they know better. Some are married and if it happens that’s fair,” she told Happy FM.

The National Women’s League was about to enter its second phase of matches before the government halted sporting related activities due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.

It remains to be seen when football will return as other sports have been given the green light to start training regimes in efforts to easing of lockdown rules by government.

Mercy Tagoe was named substantive coach of the Black Queens in January after leading the team to third place at the WAFU Cup of Nations.

Ghana’s Black Queens head coach, Mercy Quarcoo-Tagoe, has called for the immediate postponement of this year’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) to be staged in the Republic of Congo.

According to her, numerous countries around the world are still yet to recover from the full effects of the deadly coronavirus, which has decimated lives all around the world and brought lots of activities to major halt hence the need to truncate the Afcon Women’s tournament and reschedule it to a later date.

“Looking at how the world has suffered from the pandemic it will be difficult to hold the AWCON. My girls are psychologically shaken by the pandemic and the situation keeps getting worse”

“If we can wait and have the tournament next year to protect the players from contracting the virus, I am for that.”she told Happy FM.

Meanwhile CAF has postponed major competitions around on the continent in efforts to help mitigate the widespread of the coronavirus, whiles government’s are also putting in measures to ease earlier restrictions.

The Total  African Women’s Championship is organized every two years for female footballers all around African.
