Joseph Esso divides opinions with move to Dreams FC

It’s been almost a month since Hearts of Oak released five players from their ranks, high on the list amongst the released players was, Joseph Esso.

When news broke that the player had been released, it sank into the very fibre of the club’s teeming supporters with majority of them mobilizing funds in order for the club’s management to meet the player’s contract demands.

The club and the player’s representatives failed to reach a conclusion on contract terms resulting in his exit from the club to sign with Dawu based Dreams F. C.

This new move has generated lots of varied views within the football fraternity with former Hearts of striker, Gilbert Fiamenyo hugely lamented about the clubs decision to let go of their prize asset for free.

Fiamenyo, in an interview on Max FM’s SportsBiz, said the club should have done everything within their means to hold on to the forward.

“I don’t know why Hearts allowed the Esso to leave. He is a very talented player, such guys you don’t allow them to leave easily, you do your best to make them stay but well it is better he even joined Dreams and not Kotoko.”

While Fiamneyo’s assertions about how Hearts of Oak handled the striker’s contract issues hasn’t sat down well with lots of people, wantaway Aduana Stars striker Yahaya Mohammed, however, holds the view that Joseph Esso has made a big mistake leaving Hearts of Oak.

The experienced former goal king believes, Joseph Esso should have accepted his mistakes and apologized to the management of Accra Hearts of Oak rather than seeking a move away from the club.

In a recent media interview with Accra based Asempa FM, he reiterated what a big mistake Esso had committed leaving Hearts.

“My only advice to Joseph Esso is that he should apologize to Hearts of Oak management and the fans for refusing to renew his contract,” he told Asempa FM.

“Joseph Esso’s move from Hearts of Oak is a big mistake. You don’t exit from such a huge club in that manner.

“He is a good player but I don’t like the way his management are handling issues. I believe they could have sat down and resolved the contract but leaving such a big club in that manner is unacceptable,” he ended.

Joseph Esso scored 10 for Accra Hearts of Oak during a three-year stint with the side in over 40 appearances after transferring from Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs.

Joseph Esso’s agent has debunked reports stating that the striker has agreed personal terms with Kumasi side Asante Kotoko after ending his stay at Hearts of Oak.

Various reports in the local media stated that Joseph Esso is on the verge of joining Asante Kotoko after meeting with members of the club’s technical staff to finalize a move to the Kumasi side.

The player’s agent  Wasiu Ali Mohammed speaking to allsportsghana.com debunked the reports but confirmed top Ghanaian clubs have shown interest in signing the player.

“Yes he has not agreed anything with any Ghanaian club even though all the top clubs getting in contact with me which is not surprising until a player of Esso caliber becomes available every club will be interested,” Wasiu said.

Joseph Esso refused to extend his stay at Hearts of Oak after the club failed to meet his demands.
