Senegal opened the 2019 West African Football Union Cup (WAFU) with a 3-1 win against Guinea Bissau on Saturday afternoon.

The game started well for the host nation as Djibril Gueye opened the scoring just nine minutes into the game.

Assane Mbodj doubled the lead for Senegal in the 29th minute with a great finish, Claudio Gomes snatched one goal back for Guinea-Bissau ten minutes later before the half time whistle was blown.

Abdoulaye Ba scored the third goal for Senegal to seal the win for his team in the second half.

Ghana are into the round of 16 after securing a 2-0 victory against Guinea-Bissau thanks to goals from Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey.

Ghana Black Stars have qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations round of 16 after beating Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in their last group game.

The two goals were scored by Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey.

Guinea-Bisssau’s penalty shout was overlooked by the referee after Joseph Aidoo stepped on the toes of a Guinea-Bissau player.

Piqueti came close to scoring for Guinea-Bissau but his thunderous effort was punched onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

Jordan Ayew saw his effort hit the post in the 36th minute after a great strike, Adre Ayew failed the make most of the rebound as the ball was cleared away by the Guinea-Bissau defence.



The first half finished 0-0 with both teams hitting the post.

Jordan Ayew broke the deadlock a minute into the second half after dazzling through the Guniea-Bissau defence to put Ghana in front.

Thomas Partey scored Ghana’s second goal in the 72nd minute after tapping in Baba Rahman’s low cross to put Ghana in a commanding position.

Cameroon and Benin game ended 0-0 meaning Ghana go into the next round as group leaders.

Coach Kwesi Appiah has announced his starting line up to battle out with the senior national team of Guinea Bissau this afternoon.

Ahead of Ghana’s crucial game against Guinea-Bissau in their final group game in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah believes Ghana will qualify to the next round and will beat any opponent they meet.

Ghana might meet Nigeria in the round of 16 if they qualify, and Kwesi Appiah has stated that his team will be ready for the encounter.

“Nigeria are our brothers and anytime we meet them it is like a World Cup match but I am hopeful that once we qualify, we will beat any team in the last 16,” Appiah said.

If Ghana win and Cameroon beat Benin, the Black Stars will finish second in Group F and will face Nigeria, who finished behind Madagascar in Group B, in the last 16.

Christian Atsu came out injured in Ghana’s goalless draw against Cameroon and Kwesi Appiah will be hoping that the forward will be fit for their last game against Guinea-Bissau.

Thomas Ayepong is still injured but reports suggest that he will be fit to play in the round of 16 if Ghana manages to qualify.

Christian Atsu was taken to the hospital to confirm the extent of his injury and that will determine if he will be fit enough to play the last game against Guinea-Bissau.



Injuries and suspension will force Ghana coach to make some changes in the final group game, with Agyepong and Atsu injured and defender Kassim Nuhu suspended, Kwesi Appiah will be looking to his bench for possible replacements.

Cameroon were too strong for Guinea-Bissau as the defending champions kick of their 2019 AFCON campaign with a 2-0 victory.

Guinea-Bissau started the game in a defensive manner and were able to stop Cameroon from scoring in the first forty-five minutes of the game.

Cameroon finally found the net in the 66th minute through Yaya’s header that was too strong for the Guinea-Bissau defender to clear out.

The defending champions added their second just three minutes after their first goal as Bohaken took advantage of the miscommunication in the Guinea-Bissau defence to double Cameroon’s lead.
