Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan is set to earn a move to Egypt Premier League side Wadi Degla SC in the coming days according to local media reports.

Gyan has been clubless since leaving Indian side NorthEast United FC in the early part of January 2020.

It’s said that negotiations between both parties are far advanced with a deal to be confirmed in the coming days.

Wadi Degla want the experienced striker to lead the lines entering into next season 2020/21 in order to rival the likes of Al Ahly and Zamalek.

The 34-year-old’s career has been blighted by a number of injuries, which has slowed his goal-scoring prowess in recent times, but he didn’t disappoint finding the back of the net four times, an assist in the Indian Super League.

If this deal goes through, this will be Gyan’s first club on the African continent bar Liberty Professionals in Ghana some decades ago.

Gyan has said in the past that he will end his career in Ghana notably with Kumasi Asante Kotoko so definitely this won’t be his last outing before he bows out of football for good.

The nomadic striker has had stints across the length and breadth of Europe, Gulf regions, and Asia.

AFCON 2019: Egypt sack coach Javier Aguirre after defeat to South Africa

Javier Aguirre was sacked as the coach of Egypt early on Sunday morning just two hours after the Pharaohs were booted out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations by underdogs South Africa.

The Mexican was fired from his Pharaohs post with three years left on his contract after the host country crashed out of Africa’s flagship sporting event.

The massive footballing earthquake hit the host nation when Bafana Bafana struck late in the Round of 16 game in Cairo on Saturday to throw the home crowd into a state of mourning.

The 85th-minute winner from Thembinkosi Lorch was enough to secure the shock victory and send the entire system of Egyptian football into collapse.

Hani Abou Rida, the President of the Egyptian FA, and his board announced their decision to sack the Mexican coach and his entire backroom staff before falling on their own swords.

Aguirre had scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the Egyptian FA on Sunday to discuss his future after accepting full responsibility for the defeat but he was booted out before the meeting could take place.

“I am proud of the group of players that I selected. In the first three games, they were good,” the former Mexico national team coach said after the match in Cairo.

“I will not talk about the players outside of the squad. I am proud of the ones that I called-up.

“There is no decision made about my future. I spoke with the players and on Sunday I will meet with the EFA to discuss my future.

“I am the only one responsible for the defeat. We are all upset about the early elimination and I bear all the consequences because I chose the players and the formation,” he added.

Aguirre took of the Pharaohs in August 2018 and played 12 matches in all competitions, winning nine games, drawing one, while losing only twice.

The national team scored 25 goals under his charge while conceding seven.

His contract which saw him earn a monthly salary of $120,000 was supposed to run until the 2022 World Cup, but a disastrous AFCON campaign saw him depart early.

AFCON 2019: Uganda coach Sebastien Desabre resigns

Sebastien Desabre resigned as the coach of Uganda on Sunday morning after the Cranes crashed out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Frenchman left the post two days after they were eliminated at the Round of 16 stage of Africa’s flagship football competition after their 1-0 defeat at the hands of Senegal.

Desabre led the Cranes to their best showing at the tournament since 1978 and leaves the post with five months left on his contract after signing up in December 2017.

He took over the job from Serbian tactician Mulitin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic who left the side to join South African Orlando Pirates.

Even though sources close to the coach said he left the position, the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) released a statement on Sunday morning that it had parted ways with Desabre.

“On the 6th of July 2019, both FUFA and National Team Head coach of the Uganda Cranes Desabre mutually agreed to terminate the contract between the two parties,” the statement read.

“The reasons for the termination of the employment contract are for the benefit and growth of both parties.”

At the group stage of the 2019 AFCON, Uganda beat DR Congo 2-0 before drawing 1-1 with Zimbabwe and losing 2-0 to host Egypt before the defeat to Senegal on Friday led to their exit.

FUFA praised Desabre for his role in making Uganda a respected side in Africa after leading them to their best appearance in the tournament in 41 years before a pay dispute seemed to have rocked the side leading to a sit-down strike by the players.

“FUFA recognizes the contribution by Mr. Desabre for the improvement of the sporting and professional organization of the Uganda Cranes inclusive of qualification to the AFCON 2019 Finals and also to the Round of 16,” the statement said.

“Mr. Desabre is grateful to the people and the Government of Uganda, FUFA, Sponsors, Staff and the players that have provided him a good environment to fulfill his obligations in his first-time role as a National Team Coach.

“FUFA will communicate any further development about the Uganda Cranes technical staff and future programmes of the National senior team in the nearest future.”

Desabre, who previously coached Egyptian side Ismailia, has been linked with a return to the North African country with giants Al Ahly said to have reached a deal with him.

Kwadwo Asamoah confirms the position he will be playing in the 2019 AFCON

Kwadwo Asamoah has confirmed that he will play in midfield for the Black Stars at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

The 30-year-old’s possible playing role with the Black Stars at the tournament had become a major topic of discussion.

Asamoah, who made his breakthrough as a midfielder with Italian club Udinese and Ghana at the 2010 Africa Cup and Fifa World Cup, has played at left-back for most of the last six years.

“I’m a player that can play in so many roles on the field of play: I can be a midfielder, I can also support the attack, I can play at left-back and also left forward,” he told TV3.

“I spoke with the [Ghana] coach [James Appiah] and told him he knows the qualities that I have and what I can do for this national team.

“So we shared an idea and I told him he knows perfectly when I come to the midfield, I excel more than playing from the back because African football is totally different from [that of] Europe.”

Asamoah’s role on the left side of defence began during his time under Antonio Conte at Juventus.

At new club Internazionale, he is mainly deployed at the back.

“In Europe, the way we play depends on how the coach wants us to play but with African football, it’s more physical and there is no space, so with me playing from left-back, I will not find it easy,” Asamoah continued.

“So with what people know and what I know and what everyone knows, when it comes to the national team, I am always good when I play from the midfield so he also accepted and said ‘I will try and play you from the midfield’ but in any situation or any case when we need help from the left-back I’m always there.”

Asamoah’s only left back stint for Ghana was at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil where the Black Stars exited the competition in the group stage.

Ghana have been drawn against Cameroon, Benin, and Guinea-Bissau in the group stage of the upcoming Afcon.

Ghana’s delegation in Egypt for AFCON draw

A four-member delegation has arrived in Cairo, Egypt for the draw of the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019) scheduled for Friday, April, 12.

The team is led by Dr. Kofi Amoah, President of the Ghana Football Association’s Normalisation Committee.

The rest are Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong, chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, Coach Kwasi Appiah and acting General Secretary, Alex Asante.

The delegation will also visit the venue where Ghana will be allotted to inspect and select lodging and other facilities for Black Stars ahead of the tournament.

Ghana has been placed in Pot 2 with DR Congo, Mali, Guinea, Algeria, and previous Champions Cote D’Ivoire.

Friday’s draw will reveal Ghana’s first three opponents, the group and the path the Black Stars will travel at the tournament. Ghana’s quest to conquer Africa has remained elusive for the past 37-years and the N.C is bent on putting in place adequate measures to get the Black Stars better prepared for success.

Attending the Draw is a pre-launch event of Ghana’s quest to end its Afcon championship dry period and the GFA-NC is asking the whole nation to dust up the spiritual strength of support exhibited in the past that gingered us to victory. Dan Kwaku Yeboah-Spokesperson, Normalization Committee.
