Ghana Womens Premier League WK 1: Abdulai Mukarama opens season with Hat trick

Mukarama Abdulai announced her presence with a hat-trick in the 2020-2021 Women’s Premier League Matchday one as Northern Ladies whipped Ashtown ladies 3-1 at Paa Joe Park on Saturday.



Constance Achiaa’s late strike canceled out Black Queens midfielder Priscilla Okyere’s goal as Kumasi Sports Academy shared points with Ampem Darkoa ladies.

Supreme ladies shocked Prisons Ladies after beating them 2-1 at home through Nancy Amoah and an own goal from Janet Apana.

Pearlpia ladies were also held to split points by Fabulous ladies.

While in the Southern zone, Berry Ladies recorded their first home win after beating Immigration Ladies 2-1 at the Madina Astro turf on Saturday.

Hassaccas ladies also recorded their first away win courtesy to a brace from Veronica Appiah as they beat LadyStrikers 2-1.

While the game between Police Ladies and Thunder Queens, Soccer Intellectuals and sea lions game have scheduled to Wednesday due to the delay of their Covid-19 results.

The second edition of the Ghana Football Awards took place on Sunday 21st July at the Marriot Hotel in Accra as footballers and sports personalities gathered to grace the event.




Abdulai Makarama bagged two awards in this year’s edition; Future Star Award and Women’s Player of the Year Award.

Asante Kotoko and its star players were among the winners on Sunday.

Thomas Partey, Mukarama Abdulai win at SWAG awards; see FULL list of winners

Ghana International and Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey was among the winners at this year’s Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) awards held on Saturday night at Accra, the midfielder won two awards in the ceremony.




Thomas Partey won Sports personality of the year ahead of Isaac Dogboe and Anthony Baffour.

He also won the Male Footballer of the year award ahead of Felix Annan of Asante Kotoko, John Antwi of El-Makkasa SC, Joseph Aidoo of Genk and Kasim Adams Nuhu of 1899 Hoffenheim.



Talented Black Maidens captain Abdulai Mukarama also won the award for Female Footballer of the Year.

The confederation of African football have released their revised shortlists for the various categories of the 2018 awards. 

The CAF Technical and development committee voted and shorlisted the nominees, and he final phase will involve votes from CAF Media Experts, Legends, Coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, and Coaches & Captains of the 54 Member Associations.

The Awards Gala, to honour footballers and officials who distinguished themselves during the year under review, will be held on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.

Black Maidens captain Mukarama Abdulai has been crowned the highest goal scorer in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after scoring seven goals in the competition.

She also won the bronze ball (third best player) behind Claudia Pina (Spain) and Nicole Perez of Mexico.

Black Maidens arrive in the country after World Cup exit

Abdulai has become Ghana’s all-time top scorer in FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup history overtaking Jane Ayieyam’s six goals scored over tournaments.

Last week, the 16 year old was included in a 15 nominees for the African Women’s Player of the Year award.

Black Maidens forward Abdulai Mukarama has expressed excitement on winning the player of the match award in Ghana’s 5-0 thrashing of Uruguay at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. 

Mukarama scored a hat-trick and created an assist in the opening day victory for Ghana.

Following the 16 year old’s exploits in the game against Uruguay, she was named player of the match.

The Northern Ladies attacker says she is excited to help her to team to victory as well as winning the game’s best player.

Black Maidens Thrash Uruguay In U17 World Cup Opener

“I am very very excited for this opportunity and winning the best player in the first match,” she said in a post match interview. “Our aim at this world cup was to win our first match and to look forward to our other games.”

“So, I am very very happy and excited,” she added.

Ghana sit top of group A after the heavy win over the host, and will next face Finland who lost their first game against New Zealand.

Coach Evans Adotey’s side are poised on winning the competition for the first time after reaching the semi finals in 2012.
