Ghana Premier League champions, GoldStars, have their work cut out for them as they look to overturn a two-goal deficit against Algerian giants JS Kabylie.

The Bibiani-based club lost the plot against their weekend opponents in a game they were hotly tipped to make an impression against the visitors.

Following a host of missed chances from the home team, they were punished by Mehdi Merghem.

The first half came to a close with the away side in the lead. 1-0.

The Algerian side doubled their lead from a well-worked team goal, which saw Guinea midfielder Babacar Sarr tap in from close range to give his side a two-goal advantage.

The Ghanian side will hope to redeem themselves when the pair meet on Sunday, September,28,2025, at 20:00 (Local Time) at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium, Algeria.

GoldStars will play in the CAF Champions League for the first time this weekend as they host Algerian giants JS Kabyile to the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 3:00 PM GMT.

The Ghanaian side were crowned champions in a little of 3 years after they gained promotion to the league. In a league that boasts of Heats of Oak, Kotoko, Medeama SC, and others, the western region based club did what many didn’t anticipate by winning the Ghana Premier League 2024/25 season.

Frimpong Manso in recent media interviews, has appealed to Ghanaians to come cheer the team on like they did with the BlackStars a fortnight ago.

He hopes to rely on his squad, which is blessed with many talents. Vincent Atinga is one of the experienced heads who will lead the team from the dugout on Saturday. A lot will be expected from him.

The Algerian club, JS Kabylie, is not new to Africa’s elite competition. They have won the CAF Champions League twice, in 1981 and 1990, so that gives them massive confidence coming into the tie for the weekend.

They will hope their domestic form of two points from nine in three games at the 14th spot won’t hamper their conquest against GoldStars.

The match officials for the game, Georges Gatogato of Burundi, will serve as centre referee, assisted by compatriots Emery Niyongabo (Assistant Referee I) and Olivier Nibogora (Assistant Referee II). Bertrand Manirakiza, also from Burundi, has been appointed as the fourth official.

Additionally, Alhaji Babagana Kalli Kalli of Nigeria will act as Match Commissioner for the fixture.

The game is set for 3:00 PM GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium this Saturday.

CAFCL : Frimpong Manso rallies for Ghanaian’s support for GoldStars against JS Kabylie

Bibiani GoldStars coach Frimpong Manso is appealing to Ghanaians to come in large numbers to support the team ahead of their clash against JS Kabyile on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Ghanaian Premier League champions will go head-to-head with the Algerian outfit in the first leg of their preliminary round clash in the CAF Champions League.

The head coach believes that if Ghanaians are able to replicate the support of the Black Stars on the team, it will play a pivotal role in their chances of winning the first-leg tie in Accra.

“We are playing in Accra. It’s not our home ground, and so what we will appeal for is for all Ghanaians, those who can come to the stadium, to give us the support,” he noted

“They did it for the Black Stars against Mali, so we are very sure they will do the same thing for us, and I’m very sure if they also come in their numbers, we can also win — and win well.”

GoldStars will hope to get a favourable result after they beat Bechem United in week one of the newly commenced Ghana Premier League 2025/26 season.

CAFCL : Samartex ousted by Raja Casablanca

Moroccan giant, Raja Casablanca, humbled Ghana Premier League champions, Samartex.

The Ghanaian side buying in Africa’s elite competition drew 2-2 with their host at Accra Sports, hoping to pull a surprise away from home.

Maroune Zila opened the scoring for the host right on the stroke of halftime to set them on the brink of qualifications.
In between the two goals for the host, Samartex failed to use the chances they created in the game.
Naoufel Zerhouni nailed the second goal for the host to squash any hopes of qualification from the team from Samreboi.

Samartex will use this experience as a step for future computations as they channel their energies back to defending the Ghana Premier League.

Ghana Premier League champions, Samartex failed to beat Morocco club, Raja Casablanca in the qualifying series of the CAF Champions League.

The four-goal thriller ended 2-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Ghanaian club making their debut in the competition posted a 2-0 win over Victoria United in a two-legged affair to secure qualification to the next round of the competition.

Coach Nurudeen named, Kofi Baah in post, Samuel Mensah Tetteh, Isaac Afful, Ebenezer Acquah, James Sewornu in defense, Agyei, Hillary Lord Adabo, Francis Gyetuah, Richmond Darko, Michael Ephson, Emmanuel Mammah, in attack.

Mohammed Zrida shot his side into the lead in the 19th minute to set the tone for the game.

Prolific forward Michael Ephson found the back of the net twice in seven minutes, 37th and 44th minute respectively to aid his side into the lead.

In the 64th minute, a seamless breathtaking pattern of playing allowed the visitors to cut through the spineless defense of the host with cheeky ease as they leveled up through, Mohammed Boulacsout.

The Timber boys will hope to give a good account of themselves in the return leg against Raja Casablanca on September,21,2024 at the Stade Mohammed V in Morocco.

CAF Champions League debutant, Samartex has set up a frantic duel against Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.

The Ghana Premier League champions advanced to the final qualifying round of the CAF Champions League after securing a 1-0 victory over Victoria United both home and away.

An Isaac Afful first-half goal aided the Timber Boys to scale over their Cameroonian counterparts at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This victory will see them go head-to-head in a monster clash against their North African rivals.

Raja Casablanca coasted to a 7-1 aggregate victory over ASGNN of Niger in a two-legged tie.

The winner of the tie will secure passage to the group phase of the CAF Champions League.

Ghana Premier League champions, Samartex scaled over Victoria United in the qualifiers for the 2024/25 CAF Champions League at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The host beat their visitors a fortnight ago by a solitary goal and repeated the dosage when the pair met in Accra.

Ghana Premier League champions, Samartex took a giant leap to secure qualifications for the next phase of qualifiers for the 2024/25 CAF Champions League following a win over Victoria United on Sunday.

Isaac Afful’s first-half strike was enough to aid his side in wrapping a home and an away win over their Cameroonian counterparts at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The results show that the Samreboi side progressed to the next round of games after posting a 2-0 aggregate win over Victoria United, Cameroon.

Ghana Premier League holders, FC Samartex 1996 picked a vital win against Cameroonian champions Victoria United in the first leg of the CAF Champions League qualifying series.

The Ghanaian side debuted in the competition and ensured they were not intimidated by their opponents as they pitched an important victory ahead of the second leg in Accra.

Emmanuel Mamah continued his fine goal-scoring feat for his side as he rose the highest to nod home eventually proving to be the match-winner for the traveling side.

Samartex will hope to give a good account of themselves in the second leg of the competition scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium on August 25, 2024.

CAF CL: CAF approves Accra Sports Stadium for FC Samartex home matches

FC Samartex have had the Accra Sports Stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for their home games.

The Samreboi-based side club won the 2023/2024 Ghana Premier League against all odds in a league boasting Hearts of Oak, Kotoko, Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, and others.

They won seventeen games at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena by far the most points, 48.

Their triumph will see them represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League as they play Victoria United Football Club over two legs, 16 and 25 August in Limbé and Accra.

The Accra Sports Stadium will play host to the second leg of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League games.

The Timber Giants have reinforced their squad with, Baba Kushibo, Kofi Agbesima, Mohammed Alhassan Mankuyeli, Japheth Norvienyo, Isaac Baffoe, Akwasi Sarpong in the absence of, Dauda Yussif Seidu, Emmanuel Keyekeh who have left to seek greener pastures.
