Jordan Ayew indebted to Crystal Palace bosses

Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew has heaped massive praise on the club’s hierarchy for trusting him when very little persons did at the time.

The versatile striker embarked on a loan move from Swansea City to Crystal Palace but it didn’t go as planned until his involvement with the national side, Ghana at the African Cup of Nations set the tone to what would be a stellar season.

Ayew has since not disappointed in the interim after he was handed a three-year contract by the club, scoring 9 in 31 on course to hit double figures, which will be his season-best.

“I’m grateful to the whole club, Roy Hodgson, assistant Ray Lewington, chairman Steven Parish, and sporting director Dougie Freedman.

“They are the ones who trusted me and had the belief in me to sign me permanently,” he adds. “Since I came to this football club, they have been so supportive and so good to me. The only thing I could do was just try to go on the pitch, perform, and do my best for the team. Thank God, things have changed a bit for me this season.” he told SkySports

Ayew’s nine Premier League goals have lots of memories surrounding it, helping his side to 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford in August. Also hitting two goals against Arsenal, a masterpiece against West Ham in December in what would be a goal of the season contender as well as other vital goals for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Ayew entered into the record books overtaking former Ghanaian and Leeds forward Tony Yeboah to become the highest-scoring native with 25 goals, such a young achievement for the young man enjoying the form of his life.

The Ghanaian forward will be looking to hit double figures, help his side to a European ticket still up for grabs.

I owe everything to my father – Jordan Ayew

Ghana and Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew has underscored the massive influence his father has had on his football life in the last few years.

According to him, stepping up to the plate, to replicate his father’s successful career hasn’t been an easy streak, but slowly he is getting there through the support and guidance of his father.

“My dad has given us so much, in everything, and not only to me, to the whole family, the only way we can say thank you is to perform week in, week out for him to be proud and that’s what we try to do.

He stressed that he looks up to other players to learn a thing or two to shape his football career a notch higher but his father tops them all.

“I can’t give my dad enough praise, really. He’s unbelievable and I’m lucky to have a father who knows football,” he told SkySports.

Abedi certainly keeps Ayew on his toes. “He doesn’t watch the games live because he’s a bit too anxious, so they record them and he watches them afterwards,” says Ayew. “Then, when he’s finished, he briefs me a bit. If I’ve not done well, he tells me I’ve not done well. And if I have done well, he still tells me I’ve not done well.”

Ayew recently made history in the English Premier League when he beat the then Ghanaian all-time scorer, Leeds United’s Tony Yeboah to that record after his goal against Bournemouth FC sealed a two-nil victory.

The Ghanaian forward will be looking to hit double figures as he propels his side to fight for a Europe ticket.

Jordan Ayew pips Tony Yeboah to highest EPL scorer

Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew has inked his name deeply in the history books becoming Ghana’s highest scorer in the English Premier League after pipping former Leeds forward Tony Yeboah.

This weekend the 28-year old found the back of the net in 2-0 victory against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth, who are struggling to find consistency in the resumed English Premier League.

The goal marked his ninth of the campaign for the eagles helping him pip Tony Yeboah, who scored 24 goals during his three years stint with Leeds.

Jordan Ayew has come under a huge flack for his inconsistencies in the past but seems to have shaken the earlier pressure.

Top five Ghanaian scorers in the EPL  history:

  1. Jordan Ayew – 25 goals
  2. Anthony Yeboah– 24 goals
  3. Andre Ayew – 21 goals
  4. Michael Essien – 17 goals
  5. Asamoah Gyan – 10 goals

Jordan Ayew named Crystal Palace player of the month

Ghana Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew has been named Crystal Palace Player of the Month of October after series of impressive plays for the Premier League side.

Jordan Ayew scored two goals in three games for his club in the month of October.

The Ghana striker beat Gary Cahill (21%) and James McArthur (16%) to pick up his second Player of the Month trophy in three months.

“It’s a pleasure, obviously,” Jordan said. “I work really hard and I have the support from the players, from the staff, from the football club, and from the fans. Everything’s good.

“I’ll just keep on working and never stop working. It gives me more hunger for more hard work and to get to where the club wants to get to. That is a positive thing and without the players, I wouldn’t win this award so I have to thank everyone and thank the players especially.

“I just try to do my best for the team. If I can chip in a few goals it’s a positive thing. But the important thing for me is for the team to win and that is what I try to do every time I’m on the pitch, to make sure we win games.

“That is my mentality. I don’t like to lose so I want to win every game and whether I score or whether my partner scores, I am very happy.”

The Ayew brothers; Andre and Jordan might be on their way out of Swansea City after the Club Chairman’s latest statement on the club squad.

Swansea Club Chairman Trevor Birch said that the salary of three players in the team will eventually cripple the club if nothing is done.

“It is a given that we have to get them off the payroll. Anything else we receive on top will be a bonus. Their wages are potentially crippling the club,”  Birch told walesonline when asked about the Ayew brothers and Borja.

Andre Ayew spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce while Jordan was in the premier league with Crystal Palace.

Jordan Ayew scored his first goal for Crystal Palace in the new year against Wolves and added his second on the 86th minute against Grimbsy Town in the FA Cup after converting a brilliant cross from his compatriot Jeffrey Schlupp to send Palace to the 3rd round.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has expressed his delight in Jordan Ayew after the forward scored his first goal for the club on Wednesday night.

Jordan have struggled since he moved to Crystal Palace on loan from Swansea, and there have been recent reports suggesting that Palace might terminate his loan deal.

“When you are a forward, you do need goals, and he [Ayew] has had to wait for that,” Hodgson said at the post-match conference.

Crystal Palace might terminate Jordan Ayew’s loan deal

“If anyone deserved that goal tonight, it was him. He worked hard and defended well.

“He has done a lot of good work, and he did a lot of good work tonight before the goal.

“I thought his defending and his stretching of the defence, and his hold up play when we got the ball up to him, all of those things were good.”
