Thunderbolt FC, however, equalized almost immediately after Adomako’s opener; Napoleon Boateng was unmarked inside the Kotoko penalty area and heads home a great cross from a free-kick.

Nevertheless, The Porcupines came strong in the second half as Evans Adomako picks Samuel Frmpong’s pass to score his second of the game and put Kotoko in front.

Emmanuel Gyamfi scored the last goal to make sure Asante Kotoko win the game convincingly.

Asante Kotoko are now in the last 16 stages of the competition after the 3-1 win against Thunderbolt FC.

Asante Kotoko are reportedly considering withdrawing from the MTN FA Cup due to player injuries, Sahara Football understands. 



The Kumasi-based club will pull out of the competition as they want to focus on the Ghana Premier League and to reduce the injury situation at the club.

Asante Kotoko currently have more than five inured/unfit players including the new signings the club made in the second transfer window.

The club’s withdrawal could be a huge blow to the sponsors as they were hoping to see the nine times FA Cup winners in the competition this season.

The Round of 32 draw of the 2019/20 MTN FA Cup has been held today, Wednesday, March 4 at the M Plaza Hotel.

This round comes with another batch of exciting local derbies including a matchup between Venomous Vipers and Elmina Sharks in the Central region.

Medeama SC and Liberty will host King Faisal and Great Olympics respectively in the all-Premier League ties in this round while AshantiGold battle FC Sarmatex 1996 at Obuasi.

Accra Hearts of Oak will rekindle old rivalry with Okwawu United as they have been drawn to host the “asaase aban” lads in Accra.

The 2019/20 MTN FA Cup Round of 32 will be honoured from March 24-26, 2020.

After the shocking exit of Asante Kotoko in the Round of 64, Hearts of Oak are the most successful amongst the Clubs that have made it to the next stage of the competition.

The Phobians who have won the competition nine times, have a chance to advance further in this year’s edition of the competition after some massive upsets in last weekend’s Round of 64 games.

The draw, which came off at the GFA Secretariat on Tuesday, involved 46 lower-tier clubs that progressed from the preliminary round and 18 Ghana Premier League clubs who are entering the competition at this stage.



In his remarks, Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur said:

“Each of the 64 clubs is entitled to GH¢2,000 as participating fee and would also receive GH¢500 worth of airtime plus travelling clubs would get fuel support.

“At this stage, we are still using the regional groupings to ballot. And the reason why we are adopting the regional groupings is motivated by the fact that we want to create more local derbies.

“We’ve scheduled the matches to be played between February 21 and 24,” he added.

The draw threw up three all-Premier League ties – Aduana Stars vs Bechem United; Karela United vs Medeama SC and Legon Cities vs Inter Allies.

In the Ashanti Region is a Kumasi derby between Asante Kotoko and Division One side Asokwa Deportivo who are normal tough customers for the record winners.

Hearts of Oak would be making a short trip within Accra to face Division One side Danbort FC at Nungua Town Park.

The winner of the 2019/20 MTN FA Cup would receive GH¢80,000 as prize money with the runner-up set to take home GH¢30,000 cash.

The draw for the 2019/20 MTN FA Cup Round of 64 will be held at the GFA Secretariat on Tuesday, February 4.

The draw which will begin at 11 am will involve all 18 Premier League sides and last weekend’s qualified clubs from preliminary round matches.
