Ghana PL: Karela United held by Great Olympics

Karela United extend their unbeaten run to seven games without defeat after settling for a 1-1 draw against Great Olympics on Friday afternoon.

Diawisie Taylor scored early in the first half to give the home side the lead before Samuel Abbey scored just before the break to level things at the CAM Park.

Great Olympics are third and now two points behind Kotoko and Hearts of Oak in the league table, while Karela sits at the fourth position.

Diawisie Taylor’s goal against Great Olympics means he has now scored 16 goals in the Ghana Premier League this season, five more than any other player.

Almost all Ghana Premier League clubs bar Kumasi Asante Kotoko have fallen face flat at the Cross Awuah Memorial Park in the ongoing Ghana Premier League 2020-21 season.

The home “faithfuls” have been hugely dominant at home making it a fearsome ground for any club to
visit in the league.

This weekend, they have a resurgent Hearts of Oak side, who are grinding results the hard way in the
league under the tutelage of Samuel Boadu tasked with the mandate of helping the club end it's over a
decade wait for the league.

The Phobians are coming into this fixture having posted a narrow victory over Inter Allies at the Accra
Sports Stadium whiles their host have had a torrid campaign picking a paltry point from a possible nine
in three matches.

The downturn of events at Karela United seems to have affected their scoring fortunes, as the club’s
strike duo of Diawise Taylor and Kwame Boateng haven’t been at their lethal best in the last three
games.

A win for any of the duo will aid their title ambitions, Karela United will look to get one over Hearts of
Oak to end their bad patch of form whiles the latter will also want to add to their nine points they have
since picked away from home.

Prediction: Karela United 1-1 Hearts of Oak

The Crosby Awuah Memorial Park will see Karela United welcome former premier league foes, Aduana Stars to their home venue in what promises to be a mouth-watering fixture in the ultimate round of games on Saturday, 6 March 2021.

The Nzema-Aiyinase based club are bitterly bruised from their 3-1 drubbing against WAFA, Sogakope a week past and will be looking to inflict a similar or worse scoreline when they play Aduana Stars.

Evans Adotey and his boys have been very impressive at home winning all ties bar their loss against Kotoko a fortnight ago.

The home team will be heavily reliant on Diawisie Taylor(10) and Kwame Boateng(7), the pair have been very instrumental to the success of the club banging in over half of the twenty-three goals the team have since scored.

Aduana Stars will be coming into this fixture with a new man in the dugout, Asare Bediako who takes over from Paa Kwesi Fabin whose contract was not renewed.

The former Hearts of Oak assistant coach will have Yahaya Mohammed (7), Bright Adjei (3) to count on in a difficult tie this weekend.

The away side will have to be properly psyched for this match considering the arrest of stalwart defender Farouk Adams who is alleged to have run over and killed a police officer.

The Ogya boys are 5th on the log with 24 points with a goal deficit to their name.

Prediction: Karela United 3-0 Aduana Stars

WAFA’s Lawrence Agyekum dedicates first goal to mother

WAFA midfield gem Lawrence Agyekum couldn’t contain his excitement after netting his first goal of the season in the 3-1 demolishing of current table toppers Karela United at the Sogakope Red Bull Arena in a tightly contested mid-week action.

In an interview with Saharafootball.net after the entire throttle of the game at their favorite Sogakope base, he dedicated the goal to his mother, who had endlessly been a tower and an integral part of his development.

“I am happy for the opportunity coach Prosper Narteh and the technical team has reposed in me right from day one,

“It’s a great feeling to score your first goal against a high-flying side like Karela United, as such; I dedicate this goal to my mother who has always been a big figure in my life.”

The talented midfielder, who has become a mainstay in the first team since returning from injury some months ago has featured prominently (9) games since making the comeback.

Finally, Agyekum is confident that this goal will be the start of many other goals he will score in the ongoing Ghana Premier League 2020-21 season.

WAFA are billed to play a resurgent Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium in the ultimate pile of games for the first half of Ghana Premier League 2020-21 season.

GPL Match Preview and Prediction: Ebusua Dwarfs vs Karela United

Ebusua Dwarfs welcome a bruised Karela United to the Cape Coast on Sunday in week fourteen of the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

The home side have somewhat enjoyed a jolly ride under the able leadership of Ernest Thompson Quartey, who has impressively masterminded his side’s ability to go five matches unbeaten, as well as back-to-back, wins the very first in the league.

If there’s something the home side haven’t been particularly good at it’s turning draws into wins at their home venue, so far, they have won two out of six duels in their own backyard.

Karela United are coming into this fixture after falling at home to the current leaders, Asante Kotoko SC by 2-0 as well as an end to their over fifty games unbeaten home run at CAM park.

The Pride and Passion lads are bad travelers in the league, in over six games on the road, they have only picked four points contrary to their 18 points they have amassed at home.

Coach Evans Adotey and his boys may have suffered a blip to their title ambitions but that should spur them on for more victories.

Diawusie Taylor and Frank Boateng have been at their lethal best scoring combined goals of fifteen, hopefully, they should be able to come to the party at Cape Coast over the weekend.

Prediction: Ebusua Dwarfs 1-1 Karela United

GPL Match Report: Asante Kotoko cruise past Karela United

Karela United were putten in their place by record holders of the Ghana Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko in week 13 of the crunch encounter between the pair at the CAM park.

The home side were enjoying a roller-coaster ride in the league unlike a season past, where they were relegation candidates but for the outbreak of coronavirus, which decimated lives globally and brought major economies to a grand halt their blushes were spurred.

The Nzema – Aiyinase based side started the game on the front foot but their efforts were thwarted by the impressive Razak Abalora in post for Kotoko.

The away side got their noses in front through full-back, Imoro Ibrahim, who smartly got on to pass from a teammate to smash it past the Karela goalkeeper in post to hand his side the lead for the first half.

Evans Adotey will make some tactical switches in the second half but all proved vague, as the free-scoring Kwame Opoku, who has 7 in 13 games added his side’s second of the game.

This loss marres Karela United’s six unbeaten home streak in the Ghana Premier League 2020-21 season.

Kotoko are up to 1st on the log whiles Karela will have to assume the current position of 3rd in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, which is getting keener and interesting as the weeks roll past.

Wow. It’s a juicy one look forward to in the ongoing Ghana Premier League between table-toppers of the league as well as third-placed Asante Kotoko at the fearsome CAM park.

The home side have seen an upturn in form and fortunes unlike a season past where they were seriously battling relegation but for the outbreak of coronavirus, their blushes were spurred.

The Nzema – Aiyinase based side under the able leadership of Evans Adotey, have so far won all six home games, scoring 14 and conceding 3, an impressive result for a title ambitious side.

Kotoko on the other hand have not been at their consistent best, something Johnson Smith, who is familiar with the CAM park will be willing to change starting from Sunday’s tough fixture.

If there’s something, the Porcupine Warriors can be proud of, it’s the fact that they have amassed 10 points from 6 away games joint best in the current campaign.

The away side will be heavily dependent on Kwame Opoku, who has since found the back of the net five times whiles Diawusie Taylor and Kwame Boateng have combined armory to score fourteen goals for their side in 12 games.

The pair have won one each in three competitive meetings with the other ending in a stalemate.

Prediction: Karela United 3-1 Asante Kotoko
