Goals from Michelle Cooper, Alyssa Thompson, and Allyson Sentnor were enough to secure an emphatic victory for the three-time champions with Ghana playing a larger spell of the game with 10 women.

Ghana was without captain and talisman Evelyn Badu, who has been ruled out of the tournament after sustaining an ankle injury in training.

The absence of the 2022 CAF Young Player of the Year came as a big blow to the Africans, although coach Ben Fokua still fielded a strong line-up.

Ghana was reduced to 10 women midway through the first half when  Jacqueline Owusu appeared to have brought down her marker.

Despite Ghana’s strong squad, it was the USA who started the game in the ascendency and dominated the early exchanges.

Didn’t take long for them to open the scoring as Cooper was left unmarked in the box to head the USA into the lead.

Thomson doubled the USA’s lead seven minutes before the half-time break, with Sentnor adding a third just after the restart.

The Black Princesses, who are yet to advance to the knockout stage in five attempts, will face Japan next on Sunday, before taking on the Netherlands in their ultimate group game.

The event, which took place on Thursday, July 21, saw the Black Princesses skipper was the shining star of the night.

She beats off competition from Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Andile Dlamini and South Africa defender Bambanani Mbanie in the Inter-Club Player of the Year category before winning the Young Player of the Year ahead of former teammate Doris Boaduwaa and Morocco’s Yasmine Zouhir.

Badu was the top scorer in the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League and was also named player of the tournament.

Following a successful tournament and stunning year, the 19-year-old joined Norwegian side, Avaldsnes IL.

Badu is currently with the Black Princesses side as they prepare for next month’s FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

Black Princesses progress to the fourth round of the 2022 FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup qualifiers after beating the Young Copper Queens of Zambia 1-0 at the Cape Coast stadium on Saturday.

Princesses headed into the game  on the back of a goalless draw in the first leg fixture  in Zambia two weeks ago.

Both teams needed  a win to ensure progress into the next stage, the match started off on a high note but it was the Princesses who had the first opportunity in the 3rd minute but Salamatu Abdullai failed to bury it.

Both teams had decent opportunities in the early exchanges but could not take their chances as the clock ticked. However a slick team move gave the Princesses a deserved lead in the 35th minute through skipper Evelyn Badu.

Back from recess, the Young Copper Queens looked more dangerous on the ball but were denied an equaliser on by Ghana shot stopper Cynthia Konlan.

Hasaacas Ladies winger, Rahama Jafar had a clear chance to extend the lead for Ghana but missed the post by inches.

The pace and tempo of the game dropped as the game progressed as Ghana held on to win 1:0 to progress to the next round of the qualifiers.

The Princesses will play Uganda who knocked out South Africa in the previous round.

The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is slated for Costa Rica in 2022.
