Medeama, Asante Kotoko settle for a draw

A last gasp Abass Mohammed goal spurred Medeama SC from recording their second loss of the season against Kumasi Asante Kotoko in their outstanding week four fixture at the T&A Park.

The Kumasi “Galacticos” shot into the lead through, Kwame Poku in the 74th minute following a bore draw in the first half.

In what was looking like a win for the Reds to atone for their 1-0 defeat in their continental showdown against Al – Hilal, it wasn’t to be, as they were pegged back in the dying embers of the game by an Abass Mohammed penalty in the 89th minute.

Kotoko parted ways with their head coach, Maxwell Konadu, following a string of inconsistent performances in the domestic league, with the onus on the interim manager, Johnson Smith, who masterminded their win against Dreams FC at Dawu, the fans were anxiously in wait for their third victory of the season after six rounds of games but it seems they might have to wait to post the festive season to earn it.

The Reds are up to 6th on the log with 9 points (W2D3L1) whiles the Mauves and Yellow side, who have been tagged as one of the favorites to win the league have yet again had to settle for their fourth draw, three of them at home (Great Olympics, Liberty, and Kotoko), so far winning one away to Ebusua Dwarfs.

Samuel Boadu may have lost the prolific Prince Opoku Agyemang to Cape Town FC as well as Nana Kofi Babil but the earlier he sorts out his sides form the better for him to save his job considering how heads are rolling on the local scene.

Ghana PL Coaches Hub: Medeama’s Samuel Boadu

Saharafootball.net in our series dubbedCoaches Hub” profiles the exploits of Ghanaian Premier League coaches and how they can rally their teams across the finish line come to the end of the 2020-21 season.

Today’s spotlight is on a young budding potential, who certainly deserves the recognition he is getting in the last few seasons at the helm of affairs in charge of Tarkwa based giants, Medeama S.C.

Samuel Boadu – Medeama S.C

On the touchline of Medeama for this season will be no other than, Samuel Boadu. In the last two seasons, Medeama SC came close to winning the league but for varied reasons they were unable to win the league. This season presents a different ball game to the native of Tepa affectionately called “Pep Guardiola”, who has been touted as one of the potential forces in the coaching spectrum over the last few years. Boadu has football in his veins having played with Real Ambassadors, Bibiani Gold Stars, GHAPOHA, Berekum Arsenal, Prestea Mines Stars, Asfa Yennega. He holds numerous coaching certificates, CAF Coaching License “A”, “B”, “C”, CAF Participation “A”, “B”, “C”, GFA Soccer Coaching Course, and others.

Boadu may have lost goal-scoring machine, Prince Opoku Agyemang to Cape Town F.C but he has strengthened well ahead of the new season heavily backed by Goldfields $300,000 sponsorship deal to win the trophy for the first time.
