Kjetil Zachariassen gets fat paycheck from Kotoko

Kumasi Asante Kotoko have done the needful in recent times after paying off former coach Kjetil Zachariassen.

The Porcupine Warriors are reported to have paid a whopping US$ 12, 425 severance package to their former coach.

Kotoko were found culpable of contract breaches after their former gaffer dragged the club to the Status Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

Last week, reports suggested Kotoko were going to be docked points for failing to meet the deadline in settling the coach.

Zachariasen was sacked after only four months in charge following the team’s elimination from the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

This is not the first time the club have had to abrogate a coach’s contract under controversial circumstances, recently they have had to pay similar packages to other coaches.

Asante Kotoko are heading in the right direction

Asante Kotoko made a profound mistake when they terminated the contract of CK Akonnor; the man who guided the club to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages for the first time in eleven years, the man who won the Special Competition Cup and sent three players to the National team.

The club went on to sign an incredible amount of new players, released few old players and appointed a new head coach to lead the club to glory.

At first, most of the Kotoko fans went along with the decisions of the club’s management but started to raise eyebrows when the Moussa Adingra’s Saga occurred.

Kjetil Zachariassen’s first interview was filled with optimism; the coach stated that his plan was to win every match but the Norwegian went on to lose his first official game.

Zachariassen experimented with his Asante Kotoko squad in the CAF Champions League preliminary stages despite playing few friendlies prior to the competition.

When the Porcupines were knocked out of the competition and were relegated to the CAF Confederation Cup, Zachariassen angered the fans with his comments, saying the CAF Confederation Cup was their level.

At this moment, the Asante Kotoko board realized they made a huge mistake by appointing the Norwegian but still decided to give him a second shot.

Fast forward to November, Asante Kotoko were knocked out by FC San Pedro, a club that was founded in 2004 and have spent the last few years developing and improving every aspect of the club.

At this point, the Asante Kotoko management was in disarray, confused and depleted. They tried to scare Zachariassen of the job after he refused to resign by telling him they can’t guarantee his safety in Ghana. Realizing that the approach was unprofessional, Kotoko invited Zachariassen and finally ended things with the Norwegian.

Having seen their failure and incompetence, the board started listening to the fans and are trying to make amends.

Asante Kotoko are currently trying to improve their recruitment system by reigniting the feeder club that was dissolved in 2018.

This new development will improve the club and aid their recruitment process and will see hungry, motivated and good players promoted to the senior team instead of signing players without evaluating them properly.

There are a lot of areas that need improvement at Asante Kotoko but setting up a Youth team is a step in the right direction.

Stop blaming Dr. Kyei and the management – Nana Gyambibi Coker

Dr. Kwame Kyei’s personal assistant Nana Gyambibi Coker has stated that the players should be blamed for the club’s failures in Africa and not the management.

Asante Kotoko crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after losing 2-1 on aggregate against FC San Pedro on Sunday in Abidjan.

Following the club’s failure in Africa, fans have questioned the management of the club and their decision to appoint Kjetil Zachariassen and sacking CK Akonnor.

Nana Coker came to the defence of the management insisting that the players should be blamed instead of the coach.

“How can’t we deal with the inability and the indiscipline attitude of the players and stop blaming Dr. Kyei and his management whenever Kotoko losses a match,” Coker told OTEC Fm.

“Why must management be always accused and vilified anytime Kotoko loses a match whiles a player has been signed and paid to deliver on the pitch. Is the team beyond being beaten in a competition? He asked.

Kjetil Zacahariassen didn’t travel back with the Asante Kotoko squad on Monday and has been advised by the club to resign, an offer the Norwegian refused to accept.

Spanish coach Antonio Flores interested in Kotoko job

With Kjetil Zachariassen’s contract situation in the air following Asante Kotoko’s painful elimination from the CAF Confederations Cup as a result of a defeat meted them by San Pedro on Sunday, several heads are expected to roll including the technical department.

The Norwegian gaffer has come under severe pressure since Kotoko’s 0-3 loss to Etoile du Sahel. The fans called for his sack, but Management found way to jolt the fans out of any fear and asked for patience and support for the coach.
The situation has taken a nosedive following last weekend’s defeat and the  Zachariassen absconded from the team’s hotel after his manager told him transpired between him(manager )and the Executive Chairman of the club, Dr. Kwame Kyei.
Zachariassen is not likely to return to his position as coach of the club meaning the position will be vacant soon and Kotoko will soon be in the market for one.
Several names are being speculated in the Ghanaian media but one that seems to be gaining weight is Antonio Flores.

At 47, the Spanish German has had working stints in Europe and Africa serving in different roles and capacities.
“I know Kotoko is a great club in Africa and would deem it an honor to work with them.” He told kickgh.com
“I am not new to the terrain as I have previously worked in Uganda, Lesotho and South Africa. I have a lot of i can bring to the table when I am considered for the job.”
Flores is a UEFA Pro Licence Coaching license holder He holds a Spanish level 3 coaching Football License, CAF B Licence.
He speaks English, Castellano, German and Russian languages. Flores is a cousin to former Watford and now Espanyol manager Quique Sanchez Flores.

Kotoko must sack Zachariassen – former Ashgold coach Svetislav Tanasijevic

Former Ashantigold gaffer Svetislav Tanasijevic has called on Asante Kotoko to show ‘fake’ Kjetil Zachariassen the exit following reports of him faking documents to secure the top job.

Kjetil Zachariassen has come under intense scrutiny after new broke he applied for the Kotoko job with fake certificates.

The ex-Ashantigold coach has also seen his work criticized following the Porcupine Warriors exit from the CAF Champions League.

However, his former work pal at the Miners Svetislav Tanasijevic has described the Norwegian tactician as fraud and Asante Kotoko must sack him.

“That man is a very selfish man, he works in a very bad manner, he collected money from his players that’s why all the clubs he has coached had sacked him within 5 to 7months, he is a fake man,” he told Kumasi based Silva FM.

“Kotoko management must sack him (Kjetil Zachariassen) if they want to pass this game against Ivorian side, why did he left Yacouba at home against Etoile?.

“Yacouba with one leg should play, sack Zach because he doesn’t know how to win an away game. If Kotoko wins at home it’s no problem because they have their supporters around; allow Karela coach (Johnson Smith) to sit at the bench as a head coach against San Pedro or else it’s very dangerous for Kotoko to pass this test.

“Johnson Smith is 100% better than Zacharia, he’s a better man, he’s a better person of Zacharia and also a better coach, he has seen more things in the game, he knows how to win an away games.”

Asante Kotoko not interested in the services of Maxwell Konadu

Nana Kwasi Gyambibi (Coker), Personal Assistant to Executive Chairmen, Dr. Kwame Kyei, has revealed that the club has no plans of hiring former coach Maxwell Konadu.

Several reports are suggesting that Management of Asante Kotoko are considering replacing Kjetil Zachariassen with current Black Stars B coach Maxwell Konadu but Mr. Coker has debunked these reports and stories stating that the decision to sign Johnson Smith as the Assistant Coach is not influenced by the said report.

Johnson Smith, an Assistant Coach in 2007 and Caretaker Coach in 2008, completed his third Kotoko coming with a two-year contract on Friday to become the club’s new Assistant Coach.

“There is no truth in the rumored move for Maxwell Konadu.” Coker refutes. “I think when it became a rumor that we were edging close to signing Johnson Smith, people also had the idea that the move was geared at hiring a new Coach for Johnson to be his Assistant which was never in our plan,” he said.

“Moreover, we weren’t considering who will be the Head Coach. We felt that the Assistant Coach area needed a beef up, and that is what we have done. We are hoping he works hard for the progress of Kotoko” he added.
