]]> Berekum Chelsea banned from using Golden City Park


Berekum Chelsea have been banned from using the Golden City Park for their home games following Sunday’s incident that took place before the game.

Fans and officials were involved in a fight and this left two Kotoko officials badly wounded.

The Ghana Football Association released a statement on Monday stating that Berekum Chelsea have been banned from using the Golden City Park for their home games.



Full statement:

”The Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football has ordered a TEMPORARY RAN on Berekum Chelsea from using the Berekum Golden City Park as its home venue with immediate effect. The decision has become necessary due to the unfortunate incident that occurred during Match Day Eight between Berekum Chelsea and Asante Kotoko played on Sunday, 28th May 2019.

‘This decision is in accordance with Article 15(2) of the GFA General Regulations which states that ”the GFA may order the closure if any league centre where the safety of clubs, Match Officials or Spectators cannot be guaranteed.



”We are by a copy of this letter asking the NC Special Competition Committee to determine the venue for Berekum Chelsea FC’s subsequent home matches in accordance with the provision of Article 15 (3) of the GFA General Regulations.

”This order is without prejudice to the determination of the case pending before the Disciplinary Committee. ”

Asante Kotoko are considering withdrawing from the Special Competition after the incident at Berekum Golden Park on Sunday, the club are expecting immediate actions else they will consider leaving the competition.

Voilence erupted before the game between Berekum Chelsea and Kotoko on Sunday, fights between fans and club officials left few persons hospitalized.



Berekum Chelsea released a statement on Monday morning condemning and clarifying the issue.



The Normalization Committee also released a statement condemning the ‘Horrific’ act.

Special Competition: NC condemns ‘Horrific’ at Berekum Golden City Park


The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) strongly condemns the shocking acts of violence witnessed at the Berekum Golden City Park on Sunday 28th April during the NC Special Competition clash between Berekum Chelsea and Asante Kotoko.

We have learnt with horror that following a confrontation between opposing supporters and officials, gunshots were fired as well as brutal acts of violence and hooliganism.

While expressing our commiserations to the injured officials and supporters, the N.C would like to state in no uncertain terms that it is totally against the carrying, wielding or use of weapons at any venue before, during or after football matches.



Again, the NC emphatically condemns any provocation, abuse, threats or intimidation; be it verbal or physical towards players, team/ match officials and media and takes such attacks very seriously.

The NC would like to assure the general public that we will liaise with the police in their criminal investigations to reach conclusive findings and ensure appropriate sanctions are meted out to the perpetrator(s).

This latest incident should not be taken lightly and the NC urges the Police and other relevant stakeholders to join forces in order to clamp down heavily on offenders to serve as a deterrent against future incidents.



Additionally, the Normalization Committee in accordance with GFA statutes will refer the matter to the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA.
