It’s the dream of every footballer to play injury-free and give off their very best at any opportunity available to them but that cannot be said about Ghana Black Stars defender, Jonathan Mensah, who sadly recounted his tough playing days at Evian TG, France.



According to the dependable defender, who is well-traveled across three continents and six clubs, anytime he recollects his days in France, they bring sad memories to mind.

“In France, I got two major injuries at Evian, as a footballer, injuries are a part of the game, for the first two seasons, it slowed my progress at the club and put me out of action for a couple of months”

Jonathan moved past the injuries that blighted his first two seasons at the club by playing an additional three seasons before moving on to seek other challenges elsewhere.

The 30-year old defender went on to make forty-nine (49) appearances for the club scoring two goals.

Jonathan Mensah has played for other sides like Free State Stars (South Africa), Udinese(Italy), Anzhi (Russia), and captains MLS side, Colombus Crew in the USA.

Ghana Black Stars defender, Jonathan Mensah, has recounted sweet and fond memories of his club career days with Spanish side, Granada FC.

According to the hard-tackling defender, he enjoyed every moment he spent playing with the Spanish based setup even though his stint for the club was for a brief spell.

“I enjoyed playing with Granada, Spain, the people love watching football so much that, they had a song for each player.

They sing and chant your name, it was a good feeling, you feel proud and a sense of belonging even though my time was short”

The 30-year old defender went on to make fifteen (15) appearances for the club and notched a goal in the process.

Ghana Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah has declared himself fit for crucial game against Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16.

Jonathan Mensah picked up an injury in Ghana’s 0-0 against Cameroon, and this saw him miss Ghana’s last group game against Guinea Bissau.

Speaking before the game, the defender stated that he is fit for the Tunisia game.

“I feel very good now. I’m getting better and better now. I leave it for the head coach and the medical team to decide but I’ve been communicating with the medical staff about how I feel but everything is fine,” he said at the team’s pre-match press conference.

Ghana will face Tunisia on Monday as both teams will battle to scale to the next round of the competition.
