Arsenal are not ambitious enough for Pierre – Gabon President

President of Gabon Football Association says Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang needs to “secure a contract with a more ambitious club”.

The President believes the striker has lots of potentials to move to clubs that can afford him the opportunity to win trophies.

“If Pierre could secure a contract with a more ambitious club, he’d definitely find his place there,” Mounguengui said.

“Right now, he’s at Arsenal, and he’s won nothing here, so it’s a collective failing,” Pierre Alain Mounguengui told ESPN.

“I don’t want to say that Arsenal isn’t ambitious, but Arsenal doesn’t have ambitions as high as some other clubs as far as Europe is concerned.”

The Gabon international has scored 20 goals in all competitions for the Gunners in 2019-20 and is a reported target for clubs including Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Since joining Arsenal for £56m from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, Aubameyang has suffered defeats in the Europa League and Carabao Cup finals and is yet to win a trophy.

Last month, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he wants to keep Aubameyang “under any circumstances” and the club needs to discuss a new deal before the end of the season.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal can keep hold off their captain who is entering into the twilight of his career with lots of concrete interest coming from top sides in Barcelona, PSG, Real Madrid as well as Inter Milan.

The English Premier League is currently on hold as most countries are battling the global pandemic, COVID-19, with others suffering pay cuts issues as well.
