Arsenal boss Arteta gives update on Thomas Partey’s injury

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta gave a brief update on Thomas Partey after the midfielder was substituted in Arsenal’s 3-0 loss against Aston Villa on Sunday night at the Emirates Stadium.

Thomas Partey was replaced at half time against Aston Villa, and Mikel Arteta was asked for an update on him after the match.

“We don’t know [the extent] of it,” Arteta said. “We have to scan him tomorrow or the day after and see what he felt straight away. Let’s wait and see what the magnitude of the injury is.

“I don’t know [if he will go away with Ghana now]. As I said, the doctor will have to have a look at him and probably scan him. Then we will decide what to do with him.”

Ghana will have to wait to get an official update from Arsenal concerning the situation, and possibly search for a replacement before the Sudan game on Thursday.

We have a lot of quality players in the Ghana Black Stars team – Thomas Partey

Thomas Teye-Partey is buzzing with confidence going into this weekend’s International friendlies against Mali and Qatar. The 28-year-old new Arsenal recruit joined the rest of the Ghana team on Wednesday to train at the Emir Sports complex in Antalya, ahead of Friday’s friendly match against West African neighbours Mali.

Ghana will take on Qatar three days later. Thomas was on hand to speak with ghanafa.org. We asked him about how it feels to work under C.K Akonnor, the quality of players in the Ghana squad and competition for places in the team.

Read on for a full transcript:

On training with national team mates ahead of training

I feel good, I am so happy to be here again with the Black Stars. About the guys, I think they are doing well, today I can see everyone is trying to do their best, trying you win the heart of the new Coach and I think it’s good, we have a great competition and I think it’s better for the Black Stars.

On C.K Akonnor

Today is not the first day of working with him, you know we already played with him and I think he is doing all he can so that we will be comfortable and you know we won our last game and we will see what will happen against Mali and Qatar.

Competition for places in the team

We are having a good competition in the team; all the guys are training well. I think this will help the team to improve, everyone will be on their feet trying to win the heart of the Coach and also give more pressure on those that think that they are comfortable, it will energise them to be on their toes to fight to maintain their place in the team

On quality of players in the team

I am very happy; we have a lot of quality players in the team. There are so many Ghanaian players out there who are good but not all of us can be here.  Fortunately, we are here because we won the heart of the Coach. And I think it’s a good place to show what we have.

On keeping momentum to win back the love

We have to do our best, make sure we win all our matches like we did previously against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe and with this we will win back the hearts of many Ghanaians also.

Thomas Partey pledges future to Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey has indirectly squashed reports linking him with a move away from La Liga’s third-best club this summer.

The last few transfers has seen the midfielder linked to a number of clubs on the European terrain but this season has seen English club Arsenal intensified efforts in recruiting the Ghanaian international into their fold having had two bids rejected already.

But Partey in a recent interview with the club’s media team affirmed his commitment in staying with Diego Simeone’s side beyond this season.

“I remember the first game I played, everybody was shouting and I wasn’t used to it.

From there, I said to myself, I have to continue playing well to attract more attention because I kept on hearing names like Fernando Torres, Gabi and Koke, the fans were always singing their names. I said one day I hope they will be able to sing my name.”

The holding midfielder whose side were recently eliminated from the Champions League on Thursday night at the hands of the German club RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals expressed his ambitions in winning more laurels with the side in the near future.

“I don’t see myself as a key player yet because I have a lot of important players ahead of me.”

“My dream is to be able to reach a higher level than them, to be able to archive something they have never achieved with this team. It is not easy but I am sure with hard work, everything will be Ok. he ended.

Interestingly, it’s been eight years since the side last won the league dating back to the 2012/2013 season, where they were crowned Champions ahead off of the two glamorous clubs in Spain Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The midfielder has chalked some enviable success with the side helping them win the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup.

One of Ghana’s budding talents making the country proud on the European scene is Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Teye Partey.

The Ghanaian international has attracted lots of huge interest from top clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern, Juventus, PSG set to be courting the boisterous midfielder.

The Ghana international, 26, has revealed to his close friends his love for the London based club and move to the Emirates Stadium will gladden his heart.

Partey has a release clause of around £45 million whiles Atletico are huge admirers of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette.

The duo clubs will fancy a swap deal which will come off beneficial to the sides in this current coronavirus session, which has affected club finances.

If Partey does make the move to Arsenal, it will be the first of any kind for a Ghanaian player to play for the North London side.

Medeama signs partnership agreement with Thomas Partey’s Spanish club Alcobendas

Ghana Premier League side Medeama Sc have signed an agreement with Spanish lower tier side Alcobendas Sport.

The club partly owned by Ghana international, Thomas Partey, will offer assistance to the Ghanaian club by providing opportunities to players and staff of the Tarkwa based outfit.

Partey acquired the club in July after long-time pal Jose Jimenez introduced him to the team.

The 26-year old Atletico Madrid midfielder revealed his outfit will give chances to young players from Medeama SC to come try out and learn to be professionals.

“We try to bring those who are under 20 years old, so they can learn and then be first-division level by the age of 25 or 26,” the midfielder explained.

“Everyone wants to come now, so we are seeing what can be done.”

Medeama SC have been one of the most consistent performing club in the Ghana Premier League, having won the MTN FA Cup twice in recent years.

The Mauve and Yellows have also represented the country in various CAF inter-club competition.
