Zesco United coach George Lwandamina stated after the game that his side won to protect their ‘intergrity’ and pride’ and nothing more.

Zesco United had nothing to play for as they were already out of ou the competition but they still put out a strong performance against Kotoko in Zambia.



Asante Kotoko had the perfect chance to qualify for the quater-finals last week but blew heir chances as they drew at home against Al-Hilal, they needed a win against Zesco United to qualify but lost 2-1 to the Zambian team.

Speaking to the press, Zesco United boss said they won for themselves.

“They wanted it more like their coach said but we also needed to win to protect our pride and intergrity that’s why we gave them good run for their money.

“Both sides showed character, it was a cagey match but unfortunately both teams are out of the competition.”



ZESCO and Kotoko exited the competition with seven points apiece.

Coach JE Sarpong believes that Asante Kotoko should be praised even if they fail to make it to the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Asante Kotoko qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages for the first time after many years, they are on the verge of qualifying for the quarter-finals and JE Sarpong believes that CK Akonnor should be praised even if they don’t qualify.

“Even if Kotoko get knocked out at this stage, the team and the coach must be praised because they have done well for themselves and nation, he told Asempa FM.

Confederation of African Football have appointed referee Victor Miguel De Freitas to officiate the CAF Confederation Cup group game between Zesco United and Asante Kotoko in Zambia.

Victor will be assisted by countrymen Zakhele Thusi Siwela and Athenkosi Ndongeni as assistant line and two respectfully.

Asante Kotoko blew their chance to qualify for the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup against Al-Hilal on Sunday after they struggled to draw.

CK Akonnor was disappointed with the result against Al-Hilal on Sunday, he admitted that their inability to win the game has put them on a tight spot as they will need all three points to qualify when they face Zesco United.



“We had two matches to play and we drew this one, if we had lost it would have been a very painful one but thank God we drew in the last minute,” CK Akonnor said in his post-match conference.

“It means that going to Zambia, we have to win. Without that, we are out” he added.

Asante Kotoko arrived in Ghana on Tuesday after CAF Confederation Cup game where the suffered defeat against Zambian side Nkana FC.

CK Akonnor and his boys landed at the Kotoko International Airport on Tuesday and will travel to Kumasi by bus.



The porcupines will host Nkana FC on Sunday at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi where they will seek to revenge their defeat against the Zambian club.

Nkana FC head coach Coach Beston Chambeshi revealed that it was tough for his side to claim victory against Asante Kotoko on Sunday in Kitwe.

Nkana FC cruised to a 3-1 victory against Asante Kotoko on Sunday to put themselves at the top of the group with six points.

Beston Chambeshi gave credit to CK Akonnor’s boys after the game, he acknowledged the quality of the Ghanaian side.



“Kotoko are a good team and it wasn’t easy for us,” Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi said.

“But I am happy with the way the boys have come out after losing the derby in the league to our rivals Power Dynamos.

“We prepared very well for this game and the win shows we can fight back and play at any level.”

Freddy Tshmenga opened the scoring from the penalty spot after the forward was brought down at the edge of the box, Felix Annan had a touch to the effort but couldn’t stop the penalty.

Sogne Yacouba equalized two minutes after the opener through a great free-kick at the edge of the box.

Kelvin Kampamba restored the lead for the home team after a miscommunication in the Kotoko defence.



Ronald Kapamba latched on Walter Bwalya`s cross to head in at the blindside of Felix Annan to double his team’s advantage in the 51st minute of the game.

The porcupines will have the chance to revenge when Nkana FC travel to Kumasi to face them in March 3rd.

Kotoko will face off with Nkana FC at the Nkana Stadium in Kitwe where both will battle for three points.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian footballer who went for trials at Zambian Division 1 side Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy fell during training and died enroute to the hospital.

Two Ghanaian footballers arrested in Indonesia

Central Province Commissioner of Police Chola Katanga disclosed to the media the death of the footballer.

“We recorded the death of unnatural cause on 31st December 2018, where one Justice Salasi Oko, a footballer of Ghanaian nationality came to Kabwe Youth Soccer Academy for trials but as he was running with the team he collapsed. He was rushed to Mahatma Gandhi and later referred to Kabwe Central Hospital where he died,” chola disclosed.

Oko, who played for the likes of Heart of Lions and Bechem United in Ghana was sent to Zambia by Frank Simunji, a football agent.

Meanwhile, the father of the player has been notified of his son’s death and formalities are being made at the embassy on how the body will be sent to Ghana for funeral arrangement.
