Legon Cities produced a five-star performance smashing  Ashgold 5-2 to dent their title ambitions when the pair clashed at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko ushered Ghana Premier League lovers into the weekend when they engage the services of Legon Cities at their adopted home venue, Accra Sports Stadium.

The Kumasi “Galacticos” were coming into this duel on the heels of successive draws to Eleven Wonders, Berekum Chelsea, and a continental showdown to cap it off.

In other games, Medeama SC were the only side to recorded an away victory, as well as their first of the season against a spirited, Ebusua, Dwarfs at the Cape Coast Stadium in week five of the ongoing campaign through a Boateng Agyenim goal.

AshantiGold SC put their early exit from their continental engagement against Salitas behind them by recording an emphatic 4-2 victory over Elmina Sharks FC at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

A brace from debutant Dacosta Boadu, a goal each for David Abagna Sandan and Appiah McCarthy whiles the away side halved their deficit through Benjamin Bernard Boateng and Benjamin Tweneboah.

Hearts of Oak redeemed themselves from their shattering image following a two-nil victory over Dreams FC in a televised late kickoff at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With next year’s CAF inter-club competitions yet to be kickstarted, the Ghana Football Association Executive Council yet again handed the baton to Ghanaian Premier League clubs, Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold to partake in next year’s competition.

Ghanaian Premier League champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC have confirmed their participation in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League competition leaving their regional rivals, Ashantigold on edge as the September 11, 2020 deadline looms over their heads.

Kotoko’s confirmation was contained in a letter dated September 07, 2020, signed by CEO Yaw Amponsah and sent to the GFA.

The Club is expected to go through the mandatory Club licensing process as set out in the GFA and CAF Club licensing regulations.

It remains to be seen if, Obuasi based Ashanti Gold will take up the option of confirming their participation in the competition as their regional rivals have taken steps to.

Ghana Premier League club AshantiGold SC have cut ties with their fearsome striker, Shafiu Mumuni according to Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Frimpong.

The club negotiators and the player’s camp failed to agree on a new contract once the player’s contract with the club expired thus walking out as a free agent.

This came as a surprise to many, who envisaged the club would meet the financial demands of the player and his representatives but that didn’t happen.

But in a recent interview with Ashh FM in Kumasi, Emmanuel Frimpong the club’s new CEO affirmed the player’s exit from the club heading into the season.

“It is true that some of our players’ contracts have expired but we are in talks with most of them for an extension

Most of the players have taken their cheques already. Shafiu Mumuni came for his cheque today but It was a previous debt which was to be paid to him.

The coach said there is a problem with him because he has been on trials for 4 times and the videos he has watched on Shafiu would not suit his plans.” he ended

Mumuni enjoyed many good memories with the Obuasi based club, winning the Ghana Premier League (GPL),the Top 4, as well as top scorer at the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations in Senegal.

Shafiu Mumuni eyes move abroad

Former Ashantigold striker, Shafiu Mumuni, is eyeing a move abroad following the expiration of his current contract with the Obuasi based club expired.

The club and the player’s representatives failed to agree on terms to a new deal making the player walk out of the door a free agent, meaning nothing for the club in terms of transfer fees.

Speaking to The Mirror Sports in an interview, Shafiu is seeking for an opportunity to test himself with the very best beyond the shores of the country.

“As a player, you have to move forward and challenge yourself in different leagues. I have achieved all the laurels in the domestic league and a move outside the country will help me work harder to improve on my abilities,” he explained.

“If I get an opportunity to leave the shores of this country, I won’t hesitate to take that offer. If an offer from a foreign club is good enough and will benefit me and my career, I will choose to join that foreign club than to sign again for a local club,” he pointed out.

Shafiu has had at least four trials beyond the shores of the country, notably, Romanian champions, CFR Cluj, in January, but for the coronavirus outbreak the move was curtailed.

Mumuni during his spell with the Ashgold won the Ghana Premier League, Top 4 as well as other personal laurels.
