Felix Annan favours loan move after Abalora signing

Kumasi Asante shot-stopper, Felix Annan is strongly forcing the technical team to allow him join any of the top Ghana Premier League side, with Dreams FC, said to be his preferred destination.

The 25-year-old, who was recently named SWAG local footballer of the year following his exploits in 2019 has come under threat following the arrival of Razak Abalora.

Prior before he was deposed, Annan, manned the post four times after getting married to his girlfriend in early January.

This however gave the opportunity for the second choice goalkeeper, Kwame Baah, to get the nod for the remaining matches until the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League was truncated, as a result of the coronavirus.

With the imminent arrival of Black Stars goalkeeper, Razak Abalora at the club, the competition for places between the sticks are high.

Asante Kotoko currently boast of four top goalkeepers within the first team, Felix Annan, Kwame Baah, Ibrahim Danlad, and Razak Abalora.

Don’t force Paycuts on us – Felix Annan

Kumasi based club Asante Kotoko captain Felix Annan has rejected claims that the playing body has agreed pay cuts with management.

As a result of the pending coronavirus, clubs are looking at ways of cutting down on their financial burdens, and one of the several ways is to cut down on the wages and salaries of players.

This week news circled around management’s desire to soften their financial blow amid the outbreak.

The reports were confirmed when coach of the side, Maxwell Konadu disclosed during an interview with Kotoko Express that there has been a discussion with senior players of their current financial challenges.

But captain of the club, Felix Annan, quickly dispelled those suggestions, claiming they [playing body] have not held any meeting with management in regard to the subject.

“In life, I’ve always believed in proper communication, and in everything you do communication is very key so if management engage the playing body in a meeting and we come into consensus, why not,” Annan told Atinka FM.

“This is not something that should be force on us.”

“The clubs in Europe engaged their players in a meeting and agreed on that pay cut decision.”

“We all understand the situation but we should all come into terms of what is best for all of us.”

In light of this Ghanaian Premier Clubs have wailed to government to come to their aid through the country’s Football Association.

Just Last week, Football’s governing body, FIFA reintertaed their desire to help member associations to cut down on their increasing operational cost.

The deadly coronavirus has adversely affected everything in the world as at now, and football is no exception.

In Ghana, the cases stand at 641, with 8 deaths recorded as well as 85 persons recovered.

Felix Annan apologises to Asante Kotoko fans

Captain Felix Annan said ‘sorry’ to the traveling fans after the 2-0 defeat to FC San Pedro at the Houphouet Boigny Sports Stadium in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.

Hundreds of supporters drove for hours to cross the border to the neighboring West African country to watch the team in the Confederation Cup playoff round clash.

The Porcupines could not reciprocate the gesture as Felix Annan and his colleagues lost to exit the competition by 2-1 on aggregate having won the first leg in Kumasi by 1-0.

“I feel hurt for our fans who traveled from Ghana to Cote d’Ivoire to support us,” said the goalkeeper as he reacted to the fans’ unaccommodating post-match reactions. “I feel their pain and I think if I were in their shoes, I would have reacted and done more than they did. All I want to say is a big sorry to them because all we have is them and ourselves.”

The Porcupines conceded an early goal but buckled up quickly to put things under control before FC San Pedro fetched the winner late in the game.

Felix Annan was not bemused by the quality of the opponent as he rather blamed the defeat on the attitude shown by some of his colleagues on the day.

“With due respect to San Pedro, but I don’t think this is a team that should stop us from qualifying to the group stage. This is the most painful defeat I have ever had in my Kotoko career. I do not know how to explain it. Our attitude and mental toughness were not there because it is painful how we lost. We cannot be committing these sorts of mistakes at this stage.”
