It’s time for a change – Yaya Toure to Pep

Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré has suggested the possibility of a change to Pep Guardiola following the club’s fourth successive Champions League knockout.

According to the midfielder, the current ManCity manager has failed to deliver on his expected mandate in four years that he has been at the helm of affairs despite the heavy financial backing he receives from the club’s superiors in the transfer market.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Touré said that Spaniard has failed to win the Champions League, a trophy the club has longed for since the inception of the competition.

“Pep has been signed to bring the trophy to the club, and when you see your opponents like Liverpool win the trophy without doing a lot in the transfer market, it becomes quite strange and disappointing.

Everybody knows Pep is a great manager, but when things aren’t going your way, sometimes it’s time for change.”

It’s incredible how Pep has established the Citizens into a real competitive force on the domestic font, winning eight trophies in four years but lots of supporters, stakeholders are in dire need of a continental trophy to cement their status on the European scene.

David Silva; A star bows out

David Silva, the star of an era signs off in a rather unusual season in the Premier League on Sunday against Norwich City with a simple message: I hope you enjoyed the show.

The Spanish playmaker arrived in England on the back of winning the World Cup with his native, Spain, blessed with many talents.

It’s no surprise that, since his arrival at the club, a decade ago, he has mesmerized many with his dazzling football, clever assists and once in blue thunderbolt goals which helped mold Manchester City into a powerhouse in English football under Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pelligrini at the time.

Silva is one of very few decorated players with many laurels to his credit, winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five EFL Cups with the Citizens.

His achievements with Spain is one that cannot be swept under the carpet, winning the World Cup and two European Championships with his country.

Silva said: “I arrived here having just won the World Cup. It was a change in country, league, language, and everything was quite tough, but my team-mates welcomed me and really looked after me and after a few months I settled in.

“I have always tried to do my absolute best, to always behave well and I have tried to work very hard too. I hope that people have enjoyed my football for all of these years.”

The diminutive talent has certainly paid off every dime of his £26 million transfer fee the club dished out to sign him, it’s amazing how opponents on the other side sing his praise anytime he takes to the field.

“When I look back at everything I have achieved I could never have imagined it, even in my wildest dreams,” Silva said.

City boss Pep Guardiola described Silva as an “extraordinary” performer.

Silva has scored 60 goals in 308 Premier League appearances for City.

VAR was once again the protagonist between City and Spurs who played out a 2 all draw in the second game week of the Premier League season.

When it was agreed that VAR would be used this season in the Premier League many Manchester City fans would not have been the most pleased set of people.

After VAR had denied them a chance at a clean sweep of trophies last season, the introduction of it into the league would not be something they would be looking forward to.

Two weeks into the campaign and it has started already against the same team that cost them a place in the Champions League semis last season. After it worked in their favour last week following Aguero’s missed penalty kick, they would have thought that their fortunes with VAR had turned.

The game between Manchester City and Spurs served up another dose of scintillating football between two sides who surely knew how to entertain.

As expected City took the lead through the transformed and rejuvenated Raheem Sterling under Pep Guardiola. The English man netting his 4th goal of this nascent season. City was in the groove after the goal and it was clear that they were not going to let up.

But as always football keeps throwing logic to the wind. Against the run of play, Spurs found an equalizer through Lamela who caught Ederson off his line and fired past the Brazilian Keeper. Game On!

City took the lead again this time through Aguero who literally glanced the ball into the back of the net after a delicious cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

They went into the break on top but there was more drama to come in the second. First Spurs grabbed an equalizer after Moura headed home after only being on the pitch for 19 secs. Then came the sucker punch- City after seemingly scoring the winner through substitute Gabriel Jesus had their celebrations cut short after VAR confirmed the cross in the build-up to the goal inadvertently glanced the armed of the unsuspecting Laporte before reaching the Brazilian who thumped the ball home with aplomb.

The goal was ruled out with Jesus cursing VAR. Once again after the night in April against the same opponents, Manchester City was left reeling after another controversial VAR decision denied them this time 3 full points. This might not prove costly but they will feel really hard done by once again by the rules of VAR.

The deal was subsequently aborted and never went through. Gyan who turned 33 today has had a stellar career since that incident; playing for Sunderland in 2010 and going on to accomplish amazing goal scoring records with Al-Ain.

He remains Africa’s highest goal scorer in the world cup and also Ghana’s all time goal scorer with 51 goals. Gyan has faced some criticism in recent times with many calling for his exclusion from the national team fold since he has been struggling for playing time at his club side Kayserispor.
