Alhaji Grusah warns Kotoko, Ashgold against Africa

Ghanaian club owner, Alhaji Grusah, has warned Ghanaian Premier League duo Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Obuasi Ashantigold against playing in next year’s CAF club competitions.

In an interview with Ashh FM in Kumasi, the outspoken club administrator said, they are ill-prepared for the task ahead, “Allow them to go and disgrace themselves, they represented the country during the era of the Normalization Committee but brought nothing better but shame to the country because of their shambolic performances.” he ended.

Kotoko fell to Nigeria’s Kano Pillars at the first time of asking 4-3 on aggregate, while AshGold were ousted by Morocco’s RS Berkane in the Confed Cup

In a related development, former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe also advised his former club to refuse the lure in playing in Africa’s biggest club continental showpiece CAF Champions League when it returns next season.

According to the former goal poacher, who made headlines during his playing stint in the Ghana Premier League, terrorizing defenders believes the Porcupine Warriors are not in the right condition (financially, player quality, preparations) amongst other factors, hence should decline the lure of playing in Africa.

“Kotoko should not accept the opportunity to compete in Africa next season to waste money,

The club is not well-prepared to get a group stage birth which of course will be a waste of resources”.

The Ghana Premier League was recently canceled by the country’s football hierarchy following months of deliberation due to the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in the country, Ghana, which reached exponential levels.

Ghana has so far as on July 12, recorded 23,834 cases, 19,212 recoveries, and 135 deaths.

Kotoko should not accept to play in Africa – Former striker Eric Bekoe

Former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe believes the club is not well-prepared hence should decline the opportunity to compete in Africa.

Following the cancellation of the season, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) selected Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold as Ghana’s representatives for next season’s CAF inter-club competitions.

The Porcupine Warriors will compete in the Champions League while the Miners feature in the Confederation Cup.

The FA explained that choosing both teams was “in accordance with the relevant provisions of the CAF inter-club football Regulations”.

However, Bekoe, who scored 17 goals in 23 league games for Kotoko in 2007/08 season, has advised them against accepting the FA’s decision.

According to Bekoe, the squad is low in quality and considering club owner Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has placed a ban on transfers, they cannot compete with the big boys.

“Kotoko should not accept the opportunity to compete in Africa next season to waste money,” Bekoe, who gained prominence with Kotoko in winning the 2007-08 Premier League title and top scorer award, told Opemsuo FM.

“The club is not well-prepared to get a group stage birth which of course will be a waste of resources.

“The Board and the technical team should work fervently to shape the club before they will resolve to compete in Africa.

“For a team to perform majestically in Africa, it comes with a quality crop of players. This Kotoko team is of low quality.”
