OFFICIAL: Kotoko recall Abdul Fatawu from Sweden

Asante Kotoko have announced that Abdul Fatawu is to return from his trials at Swedish club Helsingborg IF following the ‘meager’ amount the club quoted for him.

Abdul Fatawu was impressive in his two-week trial with the Swedish side but he has been recalled after the European side proposed a $15,000 offer, an amount the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kennedy Boakye Ansah describes as ‘peanuts’ considering the player’s quality.

“After an excellent cap last season, he had the opportunity to go on trials at Helsingborg. We had a proposal from the team for a one-year loan deal but we saw the amount quoted by Helsingborg for him as an insult and as big as Kotoko is, we can’t accept that amount.” Kennedy Boakye said.

“The money is too small for such a quality player. Fatawu is an important player. His services will be needed during our African campaign. If the club can’t improve their offer, they should forget about his signature.” he added

Abdul Fatawu was joint top scorer with Diawisie Taylor of Karela United in the novelty Tier one cup scoring ten goals in the competition.

Abdul Fatawu likely to return to Asante Kotoko

Abdul Fatawu might return to Asante Kotoko after the club rejected Helsingborgs IF latest offer for the player, Sahara Football understands.

Abdul Fatawu left the shores of Ghana to go on trials with Sweedish club Helsingborgs IF.

Reports are stating that Helsingborgs IF are offering €15,000 for a 1-year loan with an option to make it permanent for €60,000 but Asante Kotoko are not willing to accept the fee after finding the offer derogatory.

Abdul Fatawu will likely return to Ghana to join his teammates if Helsingborgs fails to table a suitable offer.

Asante Kotoko will face Kano Pillars of Nigeria next month in the CAF Champions League, and the return of Abdul Fatawu would be a major boost to the team.

The Chief Executive officer George Amoako of Asante Kotoko has revealed that the club might lose three good players, and that’s why a lot of signings have been made.

George Amoako stated that four players are likely to leave the club following the arrival of new signings.

“We are losing the services of key players like Fatawu, Yacouba, Kwame Bonsu and Daniel Darkwah. It’s likely all of them might go. We have to plan to replace them. That is why so many names are being bundled around”, George Amoako told Oyerepa FM.

Abdul Fatawu has joined his teammates at Asante Mampong where they are currently camping ahead of their crucial game against Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Abdul Fatawu traveled with the Black Stars to camp in Dubai ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but the forward was unluckily left out of Kwesi Appiah’s final 23-man squad for the competition.

He has joined Asante Kotoko in their campground as they prepare for the semifinals on Sunday.

Abdul Fatawu is set to feature in the crucial game after missing their last two games.
