Ghana Black Stars coach CK Akonnor reacted to Mohammed Salisu’s comments on not being ready to play for Ghana at the moment.

Mohammed Salisu stated earlier that he is not ready to play for Ghana at the moment as he is currently focusing on club football and will consider playing for Black Stars later.

“We are happy that he doing well, we have a lot of players playing in his position and we are satisfied with them,” CK Akonnor said

“What he said; when he is ready he will play for Ghana. We don’t have much deployment in that position, so we will look at him. When he is ready, he will let us know.” he concluded.

Mohammed Salisu who is still struggling to break into Southampton’s first team is once again not in the 30-man squad for Ghana’s friendly games against Morocco and Ivory Coast next month.

Ghana qualify for AFCON after draw in South Africa

Ghana have qualified for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations after their 1-1 draw against South Africa in Johannesburg on Thursday evening.

Mohammed Kudu’s early second-half goal was cancelled by Percy Tau’s strike as the Black Stars settled for a draw to seal qualification with one game left in the qualifying group.

Both teams had a very physical first half but couldn’t find the net in the first 5 minutes of play.

Mohammed Kudus opened the scoring three minutes into the second half after a display of individual brilliance and a very great finish to put Ghana in front, but the lead lasted for only three minutes as South Africa equalized through Percy Tau who shot past Razak Abalora after a fine move.

Black Stars will face Sao Tome and Principe in the last qualifiers group game in Accra on Sunday.

Ghana FA requests for neutral venue for AFCON qualifier against South Africa

The Ghana Football Association has written to CAF requesting for a change in venue for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications fixture against South Africa.

The Bafana Bafana were scheduled to take on the Black Stars on 21 March 2021 in South Africa in round 5 of the qualifiers.

Due to the spike in the COVID-19 cases in South Africa, the Ghana FA is requesting the match to be played in a different country.

The Ghana FA sent the letter to Africa’s football governing body last week and is awaiting a response.

Ghana and South Africa are tied on 9 points at the top of the standings in Group C after four matches with two games left.

Sudan are on the 3rd position with 6 points whereas Sao Tomé and Principe languish bottom with no win.

Caleb Ekuban handed three-year contract extension offer

Ghana striker Caleb Ekuban has received a contract extension offer from Turkish side Trabzonspor.

There is no detail concerning the deal and the striker’s stance but reports say the 26-year-old has been handed fresh terms.

The former Leeds United has been handed an improved offer following his exhilarating spell at the club since joining.

Trabzonspor management have decided to sit on the table with the deadly striker over the terms of the new deal.

Coach Abdullah Avci says its important for the club to create a transfer pool and create next season’s staff structure.

“Let’s create a transfer pool and create the next season’s staff structure,” and will present a preliminary list at the meeting he plans to hold with the managers next week.”

The 26-year-old has been the go-to guy for Trabzonspor this season scoring six goals in 15 appearances in the ongoing season.

Ekuban scored late in the game to help Trabzonpspor win their first Turkish Super Cup in a decade against Istanbul Basaksehir last week.

Management of the team have been impressed with the performance of the Black Stars forward and have offered him a three-year contract.

His new contract will see his wages increased from 750,000 euros to 1 million Euros.

Trabzonspor are hoping to tie the Ghana International down with the new contract in order to wade off interests from other interested clubs.
