Kwesi Appiah loses interest in Football

Former Ghana coach, Kwasi Appiah, has cast doubts over his return to the field anytime soon despite consistent links to clubs around the world.

Kwesi Appiah since leaving his job with the Blackstars after his contract was not renewed by the Kurt Okraku led administration has been linked with clubs locally as well as top sides on the African terrain.

In a recent interview with a Kumasi-based radio station, Wontumi FM, when queried as to whether he will return to the field sooner than later, the ex-Black Stars gaffer disclosed that he was fully focused on pursuing other harbored dreams.

“Now I am not interested in football; my concentration is on other things, although I don’t know what will happen in the future,

But I don’t want to know anything about football” he stressed.

Appiah’s first stint with Blackstars as head coach was for a two year period, April 2012 to September 2014, before moving on to manage Sudanese giants, Al Khartoum Al Watani SC between December 2014 and April 2017.

In April 2017, Appiah was back at the helm of affairs as Blackstars head coach for a duration of two years.

It’s currently unknown if Kwesi Appiah will change his stance on staying away from football and return to management in a full-time capacity once he gets a mouthwatering deal he can’t afford to turn down.

Sports Minister response to Kwesi Appiah’s salary demands

Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah has revealed government is determined to settle the salary arrears of ex-Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.

Appiah is owed US$ 185,000 which is made up of two months salaries and bonuses

The ex-international left his post as Black Stars coach after the expiration of his contract in December 2019.

After five months, Appiah has threatened to drag the Ghana FA to FIFA if he is not paid.

”It will be wrong to state that we don’t want to pay him because we have supported him right from the start of his contract,” Asiamah said a press conference.

”We paid all his two-year salaries and bonuses before the extension of his contract and that is how come we owe him.

”I can assure you that we will pay him his due for all the good work he had done for our dear nation.”

Ghana FA clarifies Kwesi Appiah’s unpaid wages situation

This week Blackstars former coach Kwesi Appiah made the headlines, suggesting the FA owed him several months of wages and bonuses which were not paid to him before he exited his job.

The former headcoach was not paid salaries and bonuses due him for the last 5 months (August-December 2019) before his reign ended after his contract was not renewed an amount in excess of $185,000.

Kwesi Appiah through his representatives dutifully served the Ghana FA to notify them of the situation and also threatened to drag the matter to FIFA if his arrears were not paid to him in a seven-day ultimatum.

However, Ghana Football Association has quickly moved into squash those allegations leveled against them of monies owed former Black Stars Coach James Kwesi Appiah.

The FA’s Communication Director Henry Asante-Twum said his outfit does not pay the coach but the state and as such they have forwarded his grievances to them.

In a recent interview with BBC he said :

“In Ghana, the state has always paid the coach and not the GFA. This has been the practice for several decades and nothing new,”

“The GFA forwarded Kwesi Appiah’s letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, so they are working on it. For now, I cannot say anymore,” he concluded.

The embattled Kwasi Appiah this week revealed in an interview that he has had to harbor this bitter experience within him as he’s unable to feed his family.

It remains to be seen if the Sports Ministry will pay the former coach his arrears, in order for the waters to be calm.

Kwesi Appiah crys over unpaid wages and bonuses; threatens to take GFA to FIFA

The former head coach of the Black Stars James Kwesi Appiah has in full regalia registered his disappointment about the posturing of the Kurt Okraku led administration.

The former coach Kwesi Appiah says he will resort to legal means, when push comes to shove in order to retrieve unpaid wages and bonuses owed him from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The 59-year-old’s mandate came to an end in December 2019, after the Kurt Okraku led regime, who took over the reins of football administration from the FIFA/CAF Normalization Committee headed by Kofi Amoah decided against renewing his contract.

In a startling revelation on Accra based Starr FM, the former coach shared some rather bitter experiences he has had to harbor in the last few months.

“I decided to keep quiet on my salary issues all this while but I think if you are working with someone and you are no more, the best way is to give the person whatever he deserves and there will be peace,”

He added that in these difficult times, where the country, as well as the whole world, battles the global pandemic, how do the officials expect him to father his household?

“The question is ‘how do I feed my family? Meanwhile, I quite remember when they [GFA] took over [last October], [Normalisation Committee head] Dr. Kofi Amoah gave them $1,000,000 [€924,573.3] and I even understand there is also some $500,000 [462,286.6] from Fifa or whatever.

“The bottom line is you should look at the essential ones and try and sort it out. But it looks like they don’t care.

The former captain, however, threatened to resort to legal means in an ambition to recover every dime owed him, owing to the fact that, the new side recently captured his unpaid salaries as part of the infamous legacy debts.

“This is money I have worked for and they are not telling me anything which I feel it doesn’t show a sign of respect. So I have told my lawyers to deal with it.”

Appiah first took charge of the senior national team between 2012 and 2014, his tenure ended by a disappointing showing at the World Cup in Brazil.

He, however, left to manage Al Khartoum in Sudan then headed back to his homeland for a second stint in charge of Ghana in a two year period from 2017 – 2019.

Kwesi Appiah to take legal actions against Ghana FA

Whenever someone delivers on a job he has been mandated to do for a specified period its important to pay them for their services rendered for that period in question.

Coach Kwesi Appiah served as Black Stars Head a second time running in that capacity. He had to bade time on his job after his contract was not renewed when the new administration under Kurt Okraku felt they needed a new direction.

The former senior national team player and coach is demanding for his unpaid salary arrears of $175,000 from the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Appiah was on a $35,000 monthly salary and was owed in arrears for five months amounting to $175,000 before his contract expired in December 2019.

Reports circling around states that Kwesi Appiah has written to the Ghana FA through his Lawyer for payments to be done.

Appiah duly returned the official car in his possession but is yet to return keys to the apartment he currently occupies.

It remains to be seen if the GFA will honor its obligation to pay Kwesi Appiah his arrears owed him.

BREAKING: Ex- Ghana captain CK Akonnor set to replace Ibrahim Tanko as Black Stars deputy Coach

Former Accra Hearts of Oak, Ashantigold, Asante Kotoko head coach Charles Kwablan (CK) Akonnor is set to be appointed assistant coach of the Ghana senior national men soccer team, the Black Stars.

The Black Stars assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko and team coordinator Stephen Appiah have both been sacked from the technical team who represent Ghana at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Akonnor, who capped 41 times for Ghana, scoring 12 goals as an offensive midfielder, is set to join coach Kwasi Appiah who has been in charge of the four-time African Champions since returning as head coach in 2017.

The appointment of CK Akonnor, if made official, means current assistant coach to Kwasi Appiah, Ibrahim Tanko who doubles as the head coach of Ghana’s U-23 side the Black Meteors, may lose his position in the Black Stars as assistant coach and would have time to fully concentrate on Meteors as they prepare for the CAF U-23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, which will also serve as qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. CK may also just be an addition to the technical team of the senior national men team.

Akonnor coached Ghana premier league record 24-time champions Asante Kotoko to the group stage of the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup, guided to side to win the 2019 Ghana Football Association Normalization Committee Special Competition, which qualified the Porcupine Warriors to participate in the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League campaign.

Akonnor was shortlisted for vetting to be named coach of the Guinean national football team but missed out narrowly.

With the appointment of CK pending official approval, the Black Stars technical team now will comprise of James Kwasi Appiah (head coach), Charles Kwablan Akonnor (assistant coach), Richard Kingston (goalkeepers’ trainer).
