Egyptian star Mohammed Salah who is favorite for the award has been included in the final three alongside club teammate Sadio Mane, and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

A repeat of last year, the three players will be hoping to begin the year with the crown of Player of the Year for their exploits in 2018.

The winner will be unveiled at the Awards Gala on 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.

South Africa’s Thembi Kglatana will batter Nigeria duo Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega for the CAF Women’s player of the year award.

Kglatana won the most valuable player award in the 2018 AWCON held in Ghana, and also finished as the competition’s highest goal scorer. Her exploits helped South Africa reach the final were they were eliminated by Nigeria in a penalty shoot-out.

Current winner Asisat Oshoala will look to win her fourth after winning in 2014, 2016 and 2017. If she manages to win again, she will be level with compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha who has won it four times. (2004, 2005, 2010, 2011).

Francisca Ordega put out amazing performance in the 2018 AWCON, fans were entertained by her tantalizing style of play and her immense work rate. She was instrumental in Super Falcon’s 2018 AWCON Victory.

The confederation of African football have released their revised shortlists for the various categories of the 2018 awards. 

The CAF Technical and development committee voted and shorlisted the nominees, and he final phase will involve votes from CAF Media Experts, Legends, Coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, and Coaches & Captains of the 54 Member Associations.

The Awards Gala, to honour footballers and officials who distinguished themselves during the year under review, will be held on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.

Ghanaian duo Thomas Partey and Mukarama Abdulai have both been nominated for CAF’s top award in January next year.

Mukarama was part of the nominees for the Africa Women’s Best Player which also included Black Queens captain Elizabeth Addo and Portia Boakye.

Black Maidens hat-trick heroine Abdulai Mukarama excited to win player of the match award in Uruguay hammering

The U17 player had a great campaign in the just ended Women’s world cup which Ghana exited on penalties.

Thomas Partey was also part of a 35 man shortlist for the award of Africa Men’s Best Player category. The Atletico Madrid man had an amazing campaign last year having won the Europa League with his club and finishing the season in second place.

The CAF awards are set to take place in Dakar, Senegal in January 2019.
