“Some of the injured are in desperate condition,” said Olinga Prudence, a nurse. “We will have to evacuate them to a specialized hospital.”

Black Stars coach, Milovan Rajevac, has been relieved off duties

The decision was made after a meeting between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ghana Football Association in the aftermath of Ghana’s group stage exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Rajevac, 67, who returned for a second stint with the Black Stars in September 2021, supervised an abysmal AFCON campaign in Cameroon where Ghana picked up only one point from their three group stage outings, finishing bottom of Group C.

The Sports Ministry summoned the GFA to a meeting on Friday January 21, 2022 in which they directed the country’s football governing body to review the coach’s position because the people of Ghana “have lost confidence in the technical team’s ability to deliver success”.

Following Ghana’s embarrassing exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the Ghana Football President insists they took the country’s best player to the tournament.

Ghana Black Stars exited from the group stages of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nation after losing 2-3 to newcomers Comoros a few days ago; a defeat that marked the nation’s worst performance at the Africa Cup of Nation.

Following their shocking exit, Ghanaians have been questioning the quality of the players called up to the team and how they performed in the tournament.

“The players who represented Ghana are the best players we have, if there is a Ronaldo or Lionel Messi type of player somewhere who will move straight to our first eleven, just let me and I will include him,” he told the Jolly Breakfast Show on the Skyy Power 93.5FM.

Ghana Black Stars arrived in Accra on Thursday morning after their disappointing AFCON campaign.

Ghana Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac when talking to the press ahead of their game against Comoros revealed some of the reasons Ghana is struggling in the ongoing AFCON.

Milovan Rajevac revealed that his team didn’t have enough time to prepare for the AFCON 2021 and couldn’t play all their friendly games before the competition.

He also stated that the current Black Stars team doesn’t have a player like Asamoah Gyan to help the team in the attack.

“Communication is not a problem and the team understands me very well. We just didn’t have enough time to prepare the team” he said.

“We don’t have the same team like 2010. Not enough time for preparations. We don’t have a player like Asamoah Gyan” he added.

Ghana have registered only a point from their first two games in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations and will need to beat Comoros to ignite their hope of qualifying to the next stages of the competition.

Ghana Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah talked to the press ahead of their final and most important game in the group stages of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Columbus Crew defender revealed that the players are going into the game with the mindset of winning. He adds that anything can also happen in the game; a defeat against Tuesday’s opponents won’t be a disaster for Ghana.

“We are going into this game with a mindset to win, but of course, anything can happen in a game depending on the way you approach it,” he said

“It is an all-out game for us because we know what is at stake. If we win, we can progress to the next stage of the competition, and that is the mindset of the whole team”

“Even if we lose, it will not be a disaster for our nation. So we are just going to the game with just the mindset to win” he added

Ghana will have to win against Comoros to stand the chance of moving to the next stage of the competition. A draw or defeat will see them crash out of the tournament.

Africa’s biennial competition, the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) came off as planned following several weeks of intense speculations and doubts about its postponement over the widespread of the novel virus, coronavirus, and its mitigating impact on several economies and football as a global sport.

The tournament started with its usual fun and buzz with several nationals travelling far and near to support and cheer their teams on to victory.

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon didn’t disappoint as host tournament, as a veteran striker, Vincent Aboubakar lifted the spirit of the home fans with two penalties after they went behind a Gustavo Sangare goal.  In the other game, Cape Verde gave off a resounding performance to stick a solitary goal past Ethiopia to claim their first 3 points of the tournament.

Senegal, one of the tournament favorites, kicked off their campaign as they dispatched Zimbabwe by a goal to nil whiles Guinea got the better of Malawi in the other Group B encounter.

A clash of heavyweights saw Ghana welcome Morocco to what failed to live up to the billing as the former were left to lick their wounds in a 1- 0 loss following their ill preparation prior to the competition, Gabon took full opportunity to claim 3 points as they beat debutants Comoros Islands.

A fantastic 30th-minute strike from Kelechi Iheanacho was all that the two-time AFCON Champions needed to tame the record holders, Egypt whiles minnows Sudan and Guinea Bissau had to settle for a draw.

Cote d’Ivoire took full advantage of pre-tournament favorites Algeria’s goalless draw against Sierra Leone to edge Equatorial Guinea aiding them to the summit of the table in Group E.

Mali showed clear superiority in the battle of the “eagles” against Tunisia beating them in a narrow win to pick all 3 maximum points, Gambia also tamed Mauritania in the other group fixture.
