The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disqualified the Chad national team from the remainder of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.

Chad were expected to take on Namibia on Wednesday and later make a journey to face Mali on Sunday.

The Sports Ministry announced the disbanding of the Football Federation on 10 March 2021.

In line with article 61 and article 64 of the CAF regulations, Chad are considered losers of the two matches.

Before their disqualification, Chad were languishing bottom of the standings in Group A behind Mali, Guinea, and Namibia.

With next year’s CAF inter-club competitions yet to be kickstarted, the Ghana Football Association Executive Council yet again handed the baton to Ghanaian Premier League clubs, Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold to partake in next year’s competition.

Ghanaian Premier League champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC have confirmed their participation in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League competition leaving their regional rivals, Ashantigold on edge as the September 11, 2020 deadline looms over their heads.

Kotoko’s confirmation was contained in a letter dated September 07, 2020, signed by CEO Yaw Amponsah and sent to the GFA.

The Club is expected to go through the mandatory Club licensing process as set out in the GFA and CAF Club licensing regulations.

Engagement and registration for the 2020/2021 CAF interclub competitions were opened on September 01, 2020, and will be closed on October 20, 2020.

Asante Kotoko and AshantiGold were chosen by the country’s FA council on the back of winning the Tier One and Tier Two competition respectively organized by the Normalisation Committee.

Hearts of Oak was the last club in Ghana to win the CAF Champions League far back in 2000 and it’s maiden edition of the CAF Confederation Cup beating fierce rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in 2004.

It remains to be seen if, Obuasi based Ashanti Gold will take up the option of confirming their participation in the competition as their regional rivals have taken steps to.

GFA to receive 100 footballs from CAF

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has decided to support member Associations with one hundred (100) footballs for use by Associations as match balls.

As a result, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) will be a beneficiary of this gesture as the continental football governing body, work to support member Associations via the FIFA Forward programme. This was communicated to the GFA on Thursday, August 13, 2020 in a letter by CAF.

“In light with CAF efforts to support its National Associations, CAF has the pleasure to inform you that it has been decided to provide 100 match balls to each Member Association”. the letter said.

The 100 match balls are part of the FIFA Forward Program and the distribution is scheduled over two batches (end of August and end of September).

The 100 footballs from CAF will be used by the national teams of the Association.

It would be recalled that the GFA announced plans to support grassroots football with 6,000 balls through its FIFA Forward 1.0 programme.

The GFA also announced a 5,000-football sponsorship deal for the male competitions, the Ghana Premier League, Division One League and the FA Cup for the next three seasons.

Ahmed Ahmed unsure of contesting Presidential elections

President of Confederation of African Football (Caf) Ahmad Ahmad has disclosed that he is unsure of seeking re-election next year.

Caf’s next presidential elections will go ahead in March 2021, four years after the Malagasy effortlessly dethroned Cameroonian international Issa Hayatou.

In an interview with BBCSportAfrica, he disclosed he was still consulting relevant stakeholders on the next line of action if he will put in a bid to seek re-election next year or not.

“I still take advice from all the participating parties of African football, Once it’s done, I’ll be able to say whether or not I go for it.”

Since the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus across the world, Caf has been battling to pitch pieces together to properly organize it’s flagship tournaments, Africa Cup of Nations, club inter-club competitions.

But in the meantime, CAF has disbursed several amounts to its member associations in an effort to mitigate the financial burden of the novel coronavirus.

In recent times, President Ahmad has been subject to a Fifa ethics investigation after allegations were leveled against him by former Secretary-General Amr Fahmy.

CAF to consider postponing AFCON 2021

The Confederation of African Football will consider postponing the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations if it becomes impossible to honor the competition in January and February of next year.

CAF has suspended the qualifying events for the competition until at least September.

And with the coronavirus pandemic forcing the postponement of major sporting events across the globe, there are doubts the biennial competition will come off  in Cameroon as scheduled.

The CAF General Secretary, Abdel Muonaim Bah, says the continent’s football governing body is considering different options for the competition.

“If we cannot play the AFCON in January, February 2021, obviously we have other different options.

“The first one could be to play during the summer of 2021, but the main issue will be the weather condition in Cameroon; we know that it could be very challenging.

“The other issue is to postpone it for one year and so to play in January, February 2022,” Abdel Muonaim Bah said in an interview with Cameroonian journalist Njie Enow of CRTV.

CAF has already indicated intention to conclude the qualifying series for the competition by November 2020.

It is unclear the decision on the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which were also scheduled to begin in the October FIFA international break with match day two of that qualifying series slated for November 2020.

Ghana FA requests two-weeks extension from CAF to decide future of the 2019/20 season- Henry Asante Twum

The Ghana Football Association Spokesperson, Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that the FA has requested for an extension from CAF to decide on the future of the 2019/20 football season as today marks the deadline for Member Associations to decide whether to continue or truncate the season.

The Ghana FA last week engaged the various stakeholders in a virtual meeting since the outbreak to decide on the future of the 2019/20 Ghana Premier League.

Most of the clubs have suggested that the 2019/20 football season be cancelled whilst others have proposed football should return when its safe to do so.

The Ghana FA is set to meet with the Executive Council after consulting the clubs and then later with government and health authorities before taking a final decision.

Henry Asante Twum in an interview confirmed that the GFA has given CAF a situational report on the pandemic in Ghana.

“We have sent a situational report by giving CAF enough info on what is happening in Ghana”, he told Asempa FM.

“We have notified them that we cannot make a decision without adhering to the directives from the government. We have given CAF an update and we have requested for two weeks whereby we will come up with a firm plan and decision going forward”, he added.
